Hi All,

Firstly what a great site! I have been a member of the GSR_EVO yahoo groups for quite some time and although full of knowledgeable people I cant stand the format!

Anyway what I am wondering is, is it possible to fit the EVO 4G63 under the GSR bonnet? I am lead to believe that the EVO engine sits a bit higher than the GSR engine and may therefore make contact with the bonnet.

Can this be remedied easily? I have read you can cut down the engine mounts to lower the engine and transmission slightly, but wouldn't this put the driveshafts at an odd angle and cause similar problems to lowering the cars suspension exessively?

The only other option I can think (apart from fitting an EVO bonnet $$$$) is to cut the support frame slightly on the gsr bonnet and hence make it fit that way? It wouldn't be too noticeable as the heat shielding should still cover. Would there be a problem with doing to as to the roadworthyness of the car? I mean I will have to get these mods passed over the pits, but can't help but think that this would be an issue.

Anyway, anyone out there done the transplant and have any pics or proof that I won't encounter any problems?

Cheers

Mimmo

an EVO III will fit under a GSR bonnet

a Vr4 is too high for this.

usually people put huge washers on the bonnet hinges to raise any height required while retaining the factory bonnet

JETT on here put a vr4 engine into a GLXI lancer FWD

Have a look using the search feature or in mitsi madness technical or vr4 technical to see what he did

Well I will be putting in an EVO I or II engine, which I understand to be the same as an EVO III apart from compression ratio and turbo...none of which would effect the height of an engine

Thanks for that.

Cut the supports and put the heat shielding back over it i heard that works... I belted the fuck out of my bonnet with a hammer to make enough of a clearance for the timing cover  temporary fix till i get an evo bonnet.

Funny part is ive been pulled over by cops asking why my bonnet looks like that... i just told them i really wanted my bonnet to look like an xr8 bonnet but i got half way through the job and realised it looked like shit

LMAO! nice.
what do the cops say then?

So the real answer is NO it doesn't fit.

I couldn't fit my EVO II under my Aussie 94 gsr.

not without modification. So needless to say I have a EVO bonnet

I also have a GSR bonnet for sale (cheap!) fresh paint!

i have evo3 engine in my gsr and darren from afas just put 2extra nuts on the hingers on each side of bonnet and it fits no problem and i think it looks pretty cool with little bit a a raise in the bonnet

I've done the same... mainly to try get some ventilation... doesn?t help the clearance issue all that much for me.

Raising the rear of a bonnet causes one issue.
That is oil on your windscreen.
that?s why our cars have a seal at the top of the bonnet even if you don?t have a really bad oil leak you will get a sort of a residue on the screen.
But i might be real picky but greasy residue on my windscreen isn?t good or a method of improving a car.
The evo bonnet is the only real permanent solution.
And welding or cutting engine mounts is a disaster. You will brake drivshafts and diffs.
Don?t reinvent the wheel there are still competition parts available for the evolution lancer.
Unlike the vr4.
We have all the ralliart inserts available for all the mounts.
Don?t see them on many so called modded cars at all.
But the difference to drivability is incredible.

I will agree with Chris... I have all the ralliart engine mounts and inserts and its well worth it.

Just gotta get that damn evo bonnet ;)

well OT but Ive got two evo bonnets for sale one white alloy oem off an evo3 for sale small scratch above passanger head light 600
and a fibreglass evo copy bonnet never used still in packaging bought from Fibresports at Taren point sydney 400
prefer sydney buyers as I dont have resourses to freight interstate unless you can org that.
back on topic lifting the bonnet at the hinge is not legal BTW good for a temp fix till you get an evo bonnet tho.

and the fact that if you have a front on collision with anything the bonnet will go straight through the cabin and decapitate you!

Mine is raised all of maybe 2cm (if that) at the back just enought to help with the temps a little. Dout that small amount of difference is gonna cause decapitation in a front on collision... I hope not any way

LOL

So how does adding a spacer weaken the bolts holding the bonnet hinges on??!!
