Just some friendly advice, don't buy pistons untill you open it up. The last thing you want to do is buy them, open it and find your bore is scored to only then have to buy 20thou over ones. Also, if you don't know the specs on the engine, I would recommend getting someone that does to buy the parts. Not having a go, just some advice. Forged pistons aren't really needed, just make sure the tune is ok and you will make good power.

thanks for the replies. the car is already tuned i just need a better antilag setup... but im aiming for 600+kw

if i can i might just buy a race engine

its 298kw @ 20psi now
 
:w00t: 600+?????? lol u crazy fuka!!! yeh just get a motor from either ams, jacksons garage or a cossie 4g64 with a gt42r!!!!

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you are chasing 600kw and you don't know if you need a 6 or 7-bolt crank, then I hope you have $15,000+ saved just for a motor and somewhere that can build it for you......
 
Haha, thats what I was going to say.
You need to find yourself a good workshop, park you're car there for a while, and keep throwing them cash.

yeh im willing to spend maybe 20 on the engine, 10 on the rest of the car. my mate is a mechanic he does all the work...

i want a cage too. does anyone know what cages would be road legal?
 
Making 600kw's isn't as easy as buying all the top shelf parts and putting them together. If that was the case, there would be alot more guys out there with that power.

Also if we are talking realistic power, 650kw's is a shitload! Are you talking 650 at the wheels or flywheel?
Also 650 US kw's or 650 AU kw's??

I don't even think the best guys in the world can make that power.

20k on engine / 10k on car, don't forget 20k on drivetrain to support it and 10k on suspension.

I'd say budget 100k and you would be safe.

theres a few 8 second evo's out now making 1000+hp atw's

its 300k@flywheel now i want 600k@flywheel

they are more than capable, there is a pink one (or was?) on import monster in japan pushing 650PS without too much. im sure all the off the shelf parts and a tune will do it.

i wont be getting new suspension...i have an evo 6 not a 7 or 8, the 6 is the last of the group A homogolation cars, the suspension is perfect, i can throw it into anything even at high speed and it loves it.
 
1000hp on what dyno?
I think that 1000hp is at the flywheel which the yanks like to use.

U.S hp is very different to AU hp.

They use different dyno's which read alot higher than the Dyno's we use here.

1 000 horsepower [international] = 745.699 87 kilowatt

You are asking for about
800 horsepower [international] = 596.559 896 kilowatt

it was tuned on the dyno by ralliart when i bought it.

it will also be going in for another tune soon with the new haltech ecu

the only differences i know in horsepower are shp, hp, bhp etc

there is f-all difference really

from wiki:


  • One mechanical horsepower of 550 foot-pounds per second is equivalent to 745.7 watts
  • A metric horsepower of 75 kgf-m per second is equivalent to 735.499 watts
One horsepower for rating electric motors is equal to 746 watts

the only difference is in steam boiler horsepower

even 1 PS is very close to one HP (735w)

ive seen low 8 second evo's with no traction, mainly stroked 2.4's but the 2.0 can get the same kind of power
 
In real life or on youtube?

The difference in hp I'm talking about is the variance from dyno to dyno.

ie hub dyno to chassis dyno.
one brand to another brand.

Lets put it another way, you want an 8 second car?

u.s dynos usually are 15-25% higher reading than australian dyno's.

that is not off wiki its a known fact.

a street legal american car is also totally different to a street legal australian car.

we cannot work off the fact that they can do it so we can do it.

Their fuel is a lot better than ours for one, two their dyno reads higher, and i also believe that the altitude/ location of a drag strip can also be a factor in running times and due to climate/air density etc etc.

In sayign that australia and nz still elad the way with the fastest evo's :)

Getting a car to 300kws at all 4 reliably is no easy feat as many who have had that "its easy to get there" attitude has found out and then goign out there to run the times its capable of is another story.
