Evo 7'S for under 20K - too good to be true!?

Help Support 4GTuner:

I think what he was getting at was Evo 1-6 was designed to be homologated to win the WRC as a Group A car, where for the Evo 7 Ralliart had moved onto WRcar specs which has little relevance to the road car and then wound up their WRC program.

Evo 7-10 has still been run with alot of factory support in the PWRC with lots of sucess so there still is alot of competition relevance in the later cars.

Sounds just like this, except you already knew what you were talking about, and I had to google it!!

In 2001, Mitsubishi was forced by the FIA to race in the WRC using WRC rules for building a car instead of the Group A class rules, and thus did not need to follow homologation rules. The Evolution VII was based on the larger Lancer Cedia platform and as a result gained more weight over the Evolution VI, but Mitsubishi made up for this with multiple important chassis tweaks. The biggest change was the addition of an active center differential and a more effective limited-slip differential, while a front helical limited-slip differential was added. Torque was increased again to 385 N·m (284 lb·ft) with engine tweaks that allowed greater airflow, and horsepower officially remained at 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp).

yeah evo 7s down here go for around 23-25k+ my uncle bought his for 20 with 47kz on the clock iv seen some go for 27k with 60kz+ its very funny the market seems to fluctuate

There are bargains out there thought.
I paid under 15k for my 7 ~6 months ago. Wasn't looking actively but was in the right place etc.

Sure it wasn't perfect, but have spent less than 18 including purchase and its pretty much all sorted, reliable and making great power.

I hate you!

Dont forget most KM's on the clock dont mean shit unless you have service docs from Japan with matching km's,
Ive seen alot of 7,8's with supposed low kms, When inspecting belts and general mechanical condition supports
odometers have definitely been wound back.

Yep That's the most important.
I paid double for my first 7 three years ago compared to this one.
But the current one is MUCH better condition than the first body and corrosion wise. Sure it's not a heavily modded but it's rust free. Which alot of them in this price bracket aren't.

Just looked at just jap's 8 mr.

Are there any significant difference with MR's over the standard 8's? Apart from the alcantara trim and the aluminium roof?

Forgetting bigger turbo. GSR's come with a 16g with 9.8 rear housing, while MR come with 16g 10.5 rear housing with the option of a titanium rear wheel for better spool. MR's optioned with gunmetal grey (not available to GSR's), All JDM GSR's have 6 speed as do MR's. Dash inserts and steering wheel are black to suit black Recaros. What dougmo said is also correct.

pffft... the price of clean GSR's and Evo 1-3's will rise back up again... give it time
Once they hit the 20 year mark and there arent as many good ones available you watch the price rise on cult cars like the EVO 1-3 or even glorified GSR Evo replicas.
Its always the way and always will be with cars. The first shape in the series is usually the hardest to get in excellent condition and is usually the most sought after. There's something about old skool cool and the freedom to modify more than the newer cars that makes them popular later in years. If you dont understand now, I'll give you a few more years before you reflect :)
The only thing I find attractive about a newer EVO 7+ is that it will make a good every-dayer for cruising with aircon to work and back in semi-sporty style. Other than that I'd still be just as happy in a Mitsubishi 380 as a daily commuter for half the price of an EVO 7 :)

I would take the 380 for the daily over the evo 7, the fuel economy in the evo is crap compared to a 380 which has a fair bit of punch and a lot more room. If i had the chance to change Tamara's evo with something else i think the rvr/asx diesel would twist my arm cause they friken fly and are awesome on fuel!!!

Decent tune will net same if not better economy figures than a 380. I see 8.5-9/100 on the freeway, 11-12 around town taking it easy.

Saying that, I'd swap my 7 for a genuine 3 or 6.5 no worries. Lol

My boss has a 380 and he is getting high 7's low 8's round town but i really dont think that we will ever get the gta down to 10's...

For the prices of early evos its all about supply and demand.

for example there would be under 20 evo 2's in Aus out of only 5xxx made world wide

where as the evo 7 there are plenty, im not sure if it was even limited release like the evo 6.5 and earlier
