Has anyone done this before? Pros/Cons/Side effects?

Obviously you will need to match it with EVO AFM & Injectors aswell...

But I just want to know does the car start up fine? idle fine? air con etc still works? Any side effects that are known etc?

cheers

From what ive found, its pretty much a straight swap. There may be some wires/pins that are diffferent.

Yes you need the matching AFM and injectors, and fuel pump too just to be safe.

Youre best off PMing Jarred, 'GSRWRC', he runs this setup on his GSR.

RAN this setup in the car ;)

And yes, it plugs right in and will run a GSR engine perfectly.

hehehee

i thought youd pick me up on that one :p

so no pins/wires need to be changed or rewired?

so just out of curiosity- if you plug in an evo1-3 ecu that has been chipped that has better fuel/timing maps etc, would this also run the 1.8 GSR just as smoothly/well?

Replied to his PM. Thought i'd post the info here aswell incase its of any use to someone else

It depends what the chip was written for. If its configured for larger injectors etc etc It wouldnt be a good idea.

However if its just a simple speedcut/rev limiter remover and "RS" maps type chip it should be fine.

The ECU itself will plug right into the loom no worries - dont have to change a thing! Only thing you have to watch is the radiator fan wont work anymore as its switched on differently in GSRs. I just connected the two wires down on the fan together so it ran constantly and hooked up a 2nd fan to a switch I could flick in cabin if it got hot (Not very often)

You will notice that the car will run quite rich with this setup, ideally you should have a S-AFC fitted and tuned on the dyno - or a custom dyno tuned chip written to suit your setup.

Hope that helps!!

Sorry to drag this back up again but i have just done this to my gsr and it goes good too! :D Bit rich though...

Question is RE: The custom dyno chip...do you mean like a unichip, chiptorque and powerchip?
My evo3 ecu has been prepped to take a custom chip and i want to know which one i should get and then for a dyno tune?

Thanks...

go and run it dane you goose-mole :p and see what time you get now! should be better than 13.72 by far yeah? how much faster does it feel?

Evo ECUS use an EPROM. Which can be replaced with a dyno-tuned EPROM chip specific to your car.

got this ecu/ evo set up in my car (I believe the chip is factory evo type from the US)

runs bit rich as i have a winebro, currently fine tuning the chip with my workshop who has the chip modding software and equipment

no point in running it till the richness is sorted out .. mine currently overfuels to 9.0AFR at about 6000RPM

My understanding was the the gsr's 1.8lt ecu could be socketed and chipped? That means "technically" you could make it just as good as the evo ones.

If it can't be rechipped then i've gotta go back to the drawing board, Maybe i won't buy the eprom burner afterall :D

only the aspec gsr 1.8ecu uses a eprom and yes if its a aspec ecu you can chip it to do what you want same as running all the evo ecu maf ect.

Then it cuts out and dies a bit :? ?

Can you and have you pushed it past 6000rpm whilst being on the spot IE at the drags or on a launch?

Very interested.

Phew, had me worried for a bit there. Might see if i can pick up a few eprom burners in hong kong, anyone interested? :D

if your going to go that far grab a copy of the software for rewriting the chips ;) RT Tuner Pro ;)

Buy an Apexi Safc Dane  put it in. You have acesses to an Afr to tune it or take it to Carwfords Ftw.

P.S. just socred evo8 injectors for $206 including postage

That's the plan, i'm going to see what i can find in hong kong anyway. I'm guessing that this is the software you're talking about?

http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/

I've also found this one, http://dsmlink.com/index.html

Anyone got a spare 4g93t ecu lying around they want to "donate" or sell to me cheap? I need to see if i've got the ability to socket these things, pretty confident though.
