firstly greetings from the UK,i'm currently building up my evo 3. I have a td05-20g turbo with 3" comp housing..my dilema is that i didnt realise the comp housing was designed for external wastegate hotside(i.e no actuator mounting or vacuum take off), in the uk theres not much around for these cars, could you guys recommend a suitable manifold that wont crack or requires minimal bracing at a decent price which would clear the stock rad and help me to finally get my car back on the road

many thanks

Hey, welcome top the club!

Could you please enter in your location in the 'user CP' as per forum rules?

As for exhaust housing, you can get these along with actuators off ebay. The supplier will also be able to sell you a 'Zage' manifold, which is a cast copy of the stock EVO 1-3 manifolds, but with a larger outlet.

Housing:

Actuator:

If you ask that same seller, you can get an exhaust manifold from him. They also stock cheap gaskets and lines too!

Also see www.GTPumps.com.au for all your mitsu mani's, turbo's plus turbo upgrades

Or you can get a port for an external wastegate welded onto your stock cast manifold - with suitable preheating and controlled cooling of the manifold it won't crack and will cost less than any of the above options.

this is an evo6 manifold but you get the idea.

Arr the good old *NewZealanders mod
(*on 99.99% of Mitsu's in the land of the long white cloud) :w00t:

vr4 squid,i have considered modding the stock manifold as per your pic what kind of spec steel tubing would i need to use to make the take off??? or is there off the shelf items available and does it work well?i dont see why not but its not done over here in the uk

to make things clearer this is the comp housing i have(along with td05-20g cartridge and ported evo3 turbine housing),as you can see it has no actuator mounting:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbo-Compre...ZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3ef9861dfa

i spotted this on the sellers site:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbo-Compre...ZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3ef9861dfa

which is what im trying to build(but with 20g comp wheel and tdo5 hotside for spool) seems to have some sort of custom actuator and tapped the rear of the comp cover

i have considered running an external gate from the dump pipe but am worried about clearance to the rad.

then i spotted this:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbo-Turbin...ZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3ef7b4f535

which i think should be able to use with the cartridge i have, and i could also use the t3 flanged tubular external gate manifold i already have!and have a dumpipe made up...but then i think if i'm going to this kind of trouble i might aswell fit the hks to4 hybrid turbo thats already hanging from the manifold lol

my dilema is i'm trying to push the stock evo3 engine and the hks turbo will be overkill for stock motor and cams(so want to save that for when i drop the big motor in) so thats why i decided to go with td05-20g with upgraded comphousing but now i've got an actuator dilema!! i'm so confused and frustrated as this is really holding me back from getting the car running again

anyone used this type of setup?? how did you make it work

gt pumps did used to sell a decent looking tubular external wastegate mani but its not on the site anymore any1 know what it is

i'm a bit worried about using dsm stuff due to possible rad clearance issues

am hoping you guys in the southern hemisphere could help as you guys tune alot of these early evo's in the uk theres not much been done

Thick walled steam pipe is the stuff to use.

http://www.adapipelinesupplies.co.uk/fittings.asp this looks like the stuff, butt weld fittings they call them.
Regular carbon steel is probably the way to go.
(edit: I realise that's just about the opposite end of the country to you, but that was the best example I could find on a website).

Best bet is to go and have a chat with someone at a local engineering place.

no-one made the 3" comp cover work with the factory hotside keeping the internal gate??

I have a TD06 here with a 3" compressor cover, Garrett 60-1 wheel with 7cm housing and TD06SL2 exhaust wheel and integral gate

Personally though, i'd go for the external on a dump pipe, rather than off the factory manifold. They look heaps neater, and would most probably make the exhaust gasses flow more efficiently. The more exhaust flowing out the top of the manifold, means less for the exhaust wheel on your turbo!

Guys, abit of a thread revival.

So just to confirm, if I use the following td06 turbine housing (to suit ext 'gate app):

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbo-Turbin...ZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3ef7b4f535

Will this bolt onto the OEM exhaust manifold?

If not, does such a product exist? (Tubrine housing with no internal 'gate flapper to suit OEM MHI exhaust mani flange)

-Alex

EDIT: welding up the wastegate flapped is the last resort, which i am reluctant to do.

no it wont work cos its a T3 flange. So it ill bolt up to skylines etc.. but not a mitsubishi.

i think bullseye in the states makes such a product.. ill google it for ya.

I couldnt find it on their site.. give them a call.. they USE to do this sort of stuff about 3-4 years ago they might have left over stock.

email at [email protected].

I assume your after a TD05H rear housing with no wastegate to suit a TD06H SL2 rear turbine wheel?

Jon

ttttyeh johny thats it. basically after turbine housing as per above ebay link but MHI flange bolt pattern.

This way I can interchange oem with ext gate turbos in a jiffy :)

yer bullseye were making them about 3-4 years ago.. i had one on my vr4.. give them an email im sure they will have a rear turbine housing left with no wastegate hole and mhi flange.. cant guarantee that it will suit a TD06SL2 but if its smaller then u can always send it off to a machine shop to get them to machine the SL2 wheel to fit :)
