my vr4 is idleing high, about 2000 rpm, it has been slowly reving higher. it would slow down once it got to up temp, but now it doesnt.
i had a quick look through the posts and couldn't find the answer.
can any one hepl, i am hoping it is just some sort of sensor?

i feel like such an idot. i went over to Dane's place to check it out, just to find the idle screw had worked its way out. good arvo anyway, came away with parts i needed what a bonus. thanks mate:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Mine was doing that too, I did a compression test about an hour ago to find that the head gasket has given way. :(
I hate the word "headgasket". I've done so many on these engines now. "Timing belt" can kiss my ass too lol. :p

^^ Why do they keep blowing? What type of gaskets? A OEM headgasket can put up with quite a bit, there are usually contributing factors like detonation, warped surfaces on head/block or both, coolant galleries corroding away, stretched and un-torqued head bolts. There will always be a reason.
Goodluck and sorry to hear.

another head gasket???? what are you doing to them mo. have you tried spraying it with hylomar or copper seal first?

Oh man, long story hey. In the end, this one was my fault. I didn't bleed the cooling system properly (somehow?? thermostat had opened for ages and I kept topping it up, no leaks??) and it lead to the engine overheating.
I hope I didn't warp the block. This was my daily 4G61.
Simple oil change led to this lol.
Cam seals, timing belt, valve cover gasket, 3G lifters, water temp gauge (not soon enough!), CAI and a few other things. Was setting the ign timing and for some reason the timing connector wasn't setting it to base correclty, so I was playing with it with the engine running for about half an hour before I could get it to 5degBTDC. By that stage the engine was running on three cylinders but I thought that was due to the hacked MAF I put on and hadn't yet compensated for.
Through process of elimination, cylinder 4 looked sus. I was avoiding doing a comp test but I thought I'd bite the bullet this arvo. :(
Even though I thought I had bled the radiator properly, this one was my fault.

The other ones you're talking about I'm pretty sure were due to a warped block on the 4G63T, which is the reason I've removed the engine completely! And am gonna put another engine into that particular VR4. <_<
