So I'm assembling a GSR engine bay for someone. No issues there. It's a 1.8 and got a different turbo. Compressior is like a nissan turbo. Now the wastegate has a plate welded over it and there is no external gate. The wastegate actuator has a vac line running back into compressor housing and there is another spot on the housing for something to be bolted on (maybe screw in a sensor or a nipple) it has one of those manual dual stage boost controllers aswell with a spare vac line, but no fitting that would suit.

I didnt disassemble it so I'm not sure how it was set up to control boost. It went in for a gearbox change but it took them 4 months to get it to this point. I had to dissasemble most of it coz bolts were missing or not done up. And had to attach sway bar coz its not attached. No biggy, it's nearly ready now, just need to work out this turbo setup!
Any guidance in sorting out how this turbo works would be helpful, how does it bypass turbine to stop over boosting?

Back, got it sorted. The exhaust housing looked like a td05 but with a plate welded over the wastegate. Shoved my finger in housing and found that there is an extra port in there so waste hate gasses still go into Dump but via where the turbine gasses normally are

The compressor housing situation was weird as well. But I got the car running and customer us extreamly grateful. It's running a haltec and no fuel pressure reg. I tried setting it up as close to stock as possible but it would die under any throttle. So put it all back to the extreamly messy setup it was and it ran.

gave it a good clean and tidy up customer drive it home with no issues at all

The sway bar was probably disconected on purpose, on a poorly set up car it can make it handle better. What do you mean it had no fuel reg, I highly doubt that.

Sway bar was connected on one side, the other was not bolted on

It had a fuel reg. but vacc wasn't hooked up to it, and no adjustable reg either. Was weird. Car runs and drives and customer is now very happy so all good now :)

It amazes me when Bush Mechanics sorta stuff works like this, do it bodgy, it works. Do it the right way, it doesn't...

Can someone please explain to me why, when people have no idea about cars, they do the weirdest shit, and it works, but if we, who know that sorta shit don't work, we do it, and it fails....

Having a FPR without a vac line will cause the car to run at a static pressure. It will run / drive but the AFR's will be all over the place.
Lean on boost.
Rich on vac.

We used to just do the one side on wrx's on some tracks. With the fuel reg I wouldnt ever set it up like that but it can be and does work. You just tune it to suit, Return-less setups work like that from factory. All a vac/boost referenced fuel reg does is keep the fuel pressure to manifold pressure 1:1.
