Front diff

I suppose this is more a peace of mind question than anything else.. I have never had a front driven car before, and I can hear the front diff whine when driving around normally. (when car is in neutral I can hear it) Is it supposed to be reasonably loud, or should I replace the oil? Or, could my centre diff/transfer also whine? Noob question I am sure but Matress' car breaking like that has made me paranoid

it's probably a bearing.

Nope, clutch in or out, in gear or in neutral.
