Fuel leak

Hey I've noticed a fuel smell lately when driving so I had a look around and found it was coming from the fuel pump, what I am wanting to know is, can fuel leak from the electrical connector or is it more than likely the hose leaking, I did replace the hose but there is still fuel there, that is why im not sure

i had a mate who actually had a small hole int he top of the tank near the pump housing drop the tank and assess each part thoroughly judging by the picture i'd say it's the crossover line

The electrical connector has an o ring around its base..so unless thats fucked it wont be from there.

Hey thanks for the replies, I pulled out the fuel pump, I can't seem to see any o-ring on the connector, how do I actually get the electrical connector out without breaking it? does anyone know the size of the o-ring or what it looks like and is it something I can pick up at super cheap or similar, I'd like to try fix this and see if it solves the problem before I drop the tank [emoji2]

See the bits where it is pressed in..in the 2nd pic.
You need to bend those outwards then pull the electrical plug up and out.
This will reveal the o ring I mentioned previously.

Where evo-gsr is talking about, you might be able to fill it with kerosene. If the kero doesnt leak through the connector, then the leak is elsewhere.
I dont think its the connector, as there is no liquid anywhere near it.

again my bet is on that crossover hose. replace it when you put it all back together

you gould probably seal the connector without removing it with some liquid gasket appropriate for fuel and oil environments.

I got the electrical connector out before I read your replies, anyway the o-ring looks ok, but I might replace it seems it was a pain to get out, can anyone tell me what size the cross over fuel line hose is meant to be as in 1/4 3/8 or 5/16 etc

Thanks to everyone else, I tried to find an o-ring to fit but the ones I came across where thinner than what i needed so I just put it back in, it didn't look damaged or anything so I'll see what happens, I replaced the crossover fuel line and I'll just keep an eye on it and see if it's fixed

I'ld hazard a guess that the problem is more to do with the full rubber seal gasket around the top of the entire cradle isn't sitting flat, or the hose connection that I have circled in this pic.
The rubber gaskets stretch when you try to remove them off the cradle/fuel tank due to their age. I mean, over time they are stuck on so tight that removing them over stretches them and when you try to put them back on they don't seal properly.

In any case, these old rubber fuel lines are 20+ years old. It's time everybody revisits their old rubber fuel and brake lines for safety's sake.

Well it was still leaking after changing the fuel line, so l had a look at the full rubber seal gasket evo-003 suggested, I had replaced this not long ago but I think I found the problem, the little rubber bits that poke through the top to keep it aligned where quite fat at the bottom and therefore prevented it from sitting flush and sealing properly, I replaced it now, the fuel smell is definitely not as strong (nearly non existent) so I'm hoping the little fuel I can smell is the fuel from before, hopefully this fixes it otherwise I'm running out of ideas

ypur supposed to give them a small pull so that they seat porperly

I tried a small pull but there was no way it was going to fit, the one I was given was from a tj magna I found out, exactly the same except for the fat ends [emoji39]
