Hi all if you dont know already i have changed the engine loom of my 03 gti from siemens to mitsu i havent plugged the Crank angle sensor in yet nor coil pack and all the throttle body connections, when i put the igniton to on i get no fuel pump sound, i did before the conversion does any1 know if it has anthing to do with any of these things not being plugged in yet or is it sumthing else just want to make sure so i can look into it any help would be great

hi guys i have an 03 proton gti and have changed the engine loom to the mitsubishi loom like on the early gti's i seem to not be getting any fuel pump priming noise when i put the ignition in the acc postion and i did before.

Can any1 help!

will the car start if not make sure every connector is plugged in including the coils and ignitor

and some cars you wont hear the fuel pump priming

Man, you really need some help Jason. I'm all for DIY, but you seem to be going in blind and asking questions every step of the way in your conversion. You really need to go to the new Proton GTi forum (its back up and running again) and ask some of the GTi owners how they overcome problems with their SIEMENS wiring loom to Mitsu GSR wiring loom conversion.

I'm with Clutz on this one. Just concentrate on putting it all together first with all the sensors and parts in place before you try starting it, then sort out the issues.

Something to note, is that where your Proton interior loom and Mitsubishi engine loom plug together behind your glovebox via white plugs, there is a good possibility that the Mitsu ECU fuel pump wire, a black wire with a blue stripe, is not mating in the same plug position as the fuel pump wire in your Proton interior loom. Therefore your fuel pump does not get switched on.

Futhermore, its been a common thing I've noticed along the years when even doing GSR conversion into a GLXi etc. Depending on what series GSR loom was used, and whether it was Auspec or Japsec, I noticed there were 2 different spots the fuel pump wire has been located in the looms. Being a SIEMENS interior loom in your GTi could also mean that the fuel pump wire may be in either one or the other locations, or neither. Check it out by tracing the GTi's fuel pump wire back to the white plugs and see if there is a corresponding wire going to the opposite end of it. And if there is, make sure its black with a blue stripe/trace on it. Another method to check is hooking up a multimeter to the black wire/blue trace on the GSR ECU side of the plugs. Turn ignition on and see if it registers a voltage.

i have traced the wire at the plugs, the black wire with the blue stripe pairs up.... i have also moved the rear seats and removed the cap exposing the fuel pump and connections, i tested the connection that sits on the outside of the pump and i got 3 different reading with the multimeter, my highest reading was 8.7v i know i should be getting 12v so what do i do now?

na actually the factory fuel pump will only see between 7-10volts most the time, something guys with Walbros dont take into account when installing them. When installing Walbros I recommend guys use a 30A fused relay with a 8gauge positive power cable direct from the positive terminal of the battery to the relay, and use the thin factory ignition power on wire to the pump as the trigger switch for the relay. This will see the Walbro get more into the 12v+ range and provide more flow capability... but thats another story.

Seems that your ecu isnt triggering the fuel pump and could be related to the engine control relay/s. As mentioned before get all your wiring and engine sensors sorted first, including the CAS and ignitor etc. Have the setup ready to go then do your fault-finding.

i think i have found the problem there are 4 black thin wires that i have run into the car and have found them taped up so what i did was undid the tape put the igniton on and grounded a test lights and put the end on one of the exposed wires and the fuel pump keeps priming... can you please see attached photos and let me know if i need to make up a connector and ground those 4 wires?

PS what is the white connector?

Well yeah, the black wires look like they all had round gold terminals at the ends of them as a factory ground that someone has obviously cut off - no wonde ryou're not getting any loving.

The white plug is for the rear oxygen sensor that you find on the back of catalytic converters on Protons. It will run alongside the centre console, under the carpet, under the passenger seat and through a rubber grommet in the floor under the passenger seat. The rear catalytic converter sensor has a long heat insulated wire on it that will come up and plug into the white plug. You dont particularly need this one hooked up at all as the GSR ECU doesnt require it.

Let me get this right, you have a GSR engine and ECU.... a Proton SIEMENS interior loom, but which engine loom? Looks to me from in the background of one of your pics that its a twin relay setup from a Mitsu ECU'd Proton M21 or GTi (instead of a gold engine control relay in Mitsubishi Lancers). So your setup is a GSR engine, Mitsu ECU Proton engine loom, GSR ECU, and Proton SIEMENS interior loom?

i have an 2003 proton gti running the whole siemens setup. What i have dun is removed the siemens engine loom and ecu and have replaced it with the ecu and engine loom that would have run on the old gti's that had the mitsubishi setup. i am not running a gsr ecu from a lancer only the stock mitsubishi ecu from the earlyy proton gti's.

So would i use the white plug as i havent removed one before?
Also with the black wires, what do i do with them? i noticed that 2 out of the 4 if you put them on a ground they continusoly prime and the other 2 do nuthing so how do i wire em up?

Nope, you can leave the white plug just sitting there as a GSR ECU doesnt need it.

Why have you got a GTi ECU (Mitsu) plugged into for your GTI loom (Mitsu) to run a GSR turbo engine that still doesnt have all the sensors in it yet?

Anyhow, I think you're chasing your tail at the moment with a half done setup. The earth wires were a dead giveaway that you should have picked up on those wires from the word go  . IMO get the CAS, TPS and ignitor etc onto the GSR engine first (all the sensors), then plug in a GSR ECU and ensure the engine control relays arent dead. Then you should turn the key to accessories to check if the fuel pump primes and stops priming.

You see, when you turn the key to acc, power is provided to the ECU and the engine control relays and you'll hear a distinct 'click'. Remember, the relay is the actual physical on/off switch for the fuel pump and it appears that the relay is wired up incorrectly or your ECU isnt providing a signal to the relay to shut off the fuel pump.

Although the wiring looms between the Mitsu ECU Protons and SIEMEN's ECU Protons look similar, there still can be those small minor differences that make a world of difference. Just for a sanity check plug in the SIEMEN's ECU and see if the fuel pump stops or continue's priming.

if i touch the black wires onto a ground it continually primes... but what i have dun is join 2 wires together and the other 2 together and now it starts fine.... but doesnt prime umless i touch the earth but it works so that the main thing. i will get a gsr ecu and the other bits when i go to turbo it, fo now this is how i want it. just got to sort the prime issue so it only does for a few seconds and thats all

PS i cant plug in the siemens ecu as it doesnt fit the mitsubishi plugs, hence the whole reason to change the engine loom and ecu to mitsubishi so i can put a gsr ecu in later when im ready to turbo!!

Jason check the immobilizer I'm sure that's what the 4 black wire go to.Check the rest of the loom you got? for the other ends of the black wires. If the immobilizer isn't working then the fuel pump wont prime.Check evocoupe post.
Regards Neil

Hey Neil, Rob has told me that the white plug is for a secondary 02 sensor under the passenger seat, but its not really used so i just left it to the side, as far as those black wires go from what i can tell there are 3 of the same wires cut from the relays under the drivers side dash which makes sense as the fuel pump primes for a few sec as the ignition is turned on... see attached picture where 3 wires are cut but leaves the question where the other 1 goes?? i think if i wire up those wires to the igniton relay this might make it work.... maybe Rob might know how to do this or even yourself but i dont want to be cutting wires willy nilly that are working some guidance with this would be great otherwise i would have to take the car to an auto elec and get them to do it.
