Hey guys i want to up grade my fuel pump. which is the best one to replace the exsisting one with, i would like a straight swap one if possible. my mods are, td05, twin dump, 3" turbno back exhaust, bov and pod. i've heard i can use a walbro GSS342 will do the job and will pretty much fit straigh in. any help would be appreciated

VL turbo fuel pumps are generally a straight swap?

Just go to a wreckers and ask for a camira fuel pump.. they are the same model ( save some cash. )

Or a bosch 040?

just get a surgey, pre pump and a good fuel pump and be done with it :p

Explain why you need a surge pump, pre pump and another pump, in a car that already has a baffled fuel tank, has no surge issues, and when you can buy plenty of intake pumps that will support 500hp and beyond?
Only time you will ever need a surge tank in a gsr/evo is if you remove the stock tank for some reason and run a fuel cell. Which you can buy with a baffled section to remove any surge issues.

No, This is not true. As evo's and gsr's have a single fuel pump which mounts in the tank. VL commodores etc have 2 fuel pumps, a primary small pump in the tank and a high pressure pump under the floor. So fitting a VL turbo pump is not a straight swap. To fit one of these you will need to have a fuel swirl pot to make the system work efficiently. primary feeding swirl pot, and high pressure feeding fuel rail.

I would doubt very much that a camira pump would have the same fuel flow rate and pressure as required to run a turbo charged 2 litre motor as they have nothing similar fitted.

An 040 pump would be nice also, but then it comes back to having to have a swirl pot to make the system work efficiently.

The cheapest/ best option without having to modify your whole fuel delivery system would be to fit a Walbro in place of your standard pump. They do take a bit off messing around to fit, but would definatly be the best cheap option. It is the same thing which i am running in my car... :D

thanks guys, is there a specific model number i should buy? like i said before i heard the GSS342 will be the closest to a direct change. do u guys know if this is true or what model numbers are u guys using?

Zimbie,

I'm not sure off the top of my head, but that number does sound familiar. I will try and find my receipt tonight and check what it says..

OK a 255 walbro's model number I gather is GSS342 is this the fuel pump and filter combo as Ive heard of people buying the Walbro pump 255 and its had the wrong filter supplied would be good to know 110% for sure.

does any 1 know what the standard gsr fuel pump is rated at?

Standard GSR is 80lph as is the Evo 1. Walbro GSS342 is a straight swap, bar some minor modification needed to the cradle (Was For mine anyway) I used an Evo cradle in conjunction with the walbro in my GSR tank.

Finished assembly as pictured below :)

hey GSRWRC, i set up mine the same in the evo, with the fuel hose as the connector, have u had anyproblems with this after you did it? how long ago did u do it? ive heard that fuel hose isnt suppose to sit submerged in fuel full time??

cheers

hey guys, im actually trying to change the fuel pump now but am having difficulty getting one of the buts off, please correct me if i'm doing this wrong. i'l try post a pic but i'm a noob and not sure how. but it's the main line where there is a nut welded on and the bigger nut which i assume unscrews, however when ever i release it it just moves back into its original position, like it's spring loaded to sit there. does this make any sence to any 1? i'm talking about the one where the spanner is, can't seem to get it off
