Fuel starvation issues!!

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

yeah i suppose the facet pump just delivers the fuel as fast as the engine burns it...so with the fuel recirculating back into the surge tank the facet doesnt have to work anywhere near as hard anymore!

i was releived on how simple it was....i was about to go and get another high volume pump to replace the facet one!....luckily i spoke to someone who is in the fuel pump/injection business!

but yeah the car performs really well now! im stoked on how fast it is!

cheers! :D

My understanding of surge tanks are that the overflow from the surge tank should go back to the main fuel tank and that the fuel return line fromt he engine bay should also go back to the main fuel tank, that way, there is no pressure in the surge tank.

I think that by just routing the fuel return line back to the surge tank, it is a short term fix for a fuel delivery problem, At the moment, you have enough fuel bypassing the engine to keep the surge tank full. If your fuel needs increase (eg. if you increase the boost), you will have less fuel returning to the surge tank to help the facet pump keep it full and may end up having the same problem.

The other downside of sending the fuel return to the surge tank is that you are sending hot fuel into a small volume of fuel rather than sending it into a large volume of fuel to help dissapate the heat better. (Just run the fuel through a chiller and that fixes that problem though).

ive got a line going back to the main tank from the surge tank anyway...so if there is any pressure in the surge tank it will be pushed back into the main tank! therefore cancelling out the whole pressure building up thing!

but one thing is how do i releive the pressure in the main tank??

is it alright to have pressure coming out when you open the cap??

most cars have that so i dunno :?

cheers mate!

Your fuel cap will probably have a vent in it so that if too much vacuum builds up, the cap will let some air in. I woudn't be too worried about that.

aah ok!

so u reckon it should be right with the return line going back into the main tank? coz then the pressure will be equal in the surge tank and the main tank....

but yeah the fuel specialist said that if i run the return line back into the surge tank it should be more than enough to stop the problem :)

so yeah it should be all good!....unless ofcourse im driving around full throttle constantly for a few minutes!....but then the facet pump should keep refilling the tank anyway!

cheers!
