Gday guys,

I brought this up in a seperate topic today, and i thought id ask it in here, as i assume this private section isnt the shallow end of the gene pool.

Main reason im asking is because the car doesnt see the street anymore and is just for shits and giggles down the drag strip so the only corners it sees is the turn around and in the pits.

But you guys have been around and know the ins and outs, but if anyone has had any experience in regards to this i would appreciate if you could share your experiences, good, bad or indifferent.

Yeah i seen that Alex, but im more interested in things like driveshaft life, if its predictable or if its abit dicey i don't know. What i do know is when i welded up the centre in a Escort a few years back (good ole days) we used to snap axles left and right, we had axle swaps down to an art of about 25-35 minutes and half a tube of gasket goo :p
 
marc, its always the 'weakest link in the chain' that will let go first.

in the case of the gsr box, im not sure weather its the drive shafts or box internals that would yield first.

Well look its not like im making retarded amounts of power, its only around the 200-220hp at the fronts, not like its trying to reverse the rotation of the earth.
 
think about this.

with a one wheel spin wonder, you 220hp going through one axle.

with a locked/lsd you'd have close to 110hp going through each axle.


that does quite mean less stress though, as you would probably find the actual amount of tourqe going through the axles increase's because of more resistance to "wheel spin"

locked front diff, in my opinion is very dangerous for anything but straight line work only.
 
I think half the problem with welding your diff up is the extra stress associated to the axles binding up whenever you turn even slight corners, since the wheels can't turn at independent speeds. If it's going to be track only, this shouldn't be much of an issue, but on the street, your axles will cop a fair beating from this alone.

Aside from that, locked fwd diffs are just a pain in the arse to drive generally, but if it's not gonna see street duties, I don't really see a problem.
