gearbox compatibility?

ive currently got a pre-facelift jdm gvr4 and i wanna swap the gearbox to an RS gear box, C51PH, 3.545 ratio

should i have any problems?? the ratio is the same isnt it?

will i need the RS transfer case and diff to go with it?

thanks in advance guys, i just dont wanna buy something that i cant use

im pretty sure the rs box has a 3.9 ratio box mate

so you would need a 3.9 rear diff also

pre face lift RS's are 3.5 & facelift RS's are 3.9

and if i want an LSD rear i have to find a pre-facelift RS diff?

I'm confused, is there such a this as a Facelift RS?
Or are they "Super" and "Monte Carlo" VR4's?
Someone told me that RS models only occurred in the E38 Galant series, which would be pre-facelift yeah?
So many different Galants, I don't think I'll ever get my head around all of them!

No.

Not likely but it would pay to check the spline count anyway

Not needed.

Only the W5M33 RS boxes need the 3.909 rear diff. Prefacelift RS boxes are to suit the 3.545 rear diff.

Yes.

You cannot be guaranteed of getting a front or rear lsd in a prefacelift RS box/diff. They were not a standard inclusion. But there is a chance that they may have been installed, hence it's best to check for yourself.

Yes, they are the best ones of all to get.

Super's and Monte's are just up-spec'd facelift RS's. IE, and the go fast facelift RS bits with the luxury bits from a normal VR4 (and leather interior).

So many different Galants, I don't think I'll ever get my head around all of them!

Keep at it and you'll soon have one of every variety .

Just a quick note to add:

There are facelift RS's with 14b's, 450's, 3 bolt mech lsd rear end, 3.545 ratio

and there are Evo RS's with 16G's, 510's, 4 bolt mech lsd rear ends and 3.909 ratio.

According to the Group A homologation papers ALL vr4's built after a certain date had the larger turbocharger, 510's, 4 bolt, etc...

Companies regularly upspec cars on the way out of build to simply get rid of the excess parts on the shelf. (Extra sets of injectors/turbo's/etc). It happens even on todays cars.
