hey guys

Well, after a good service of the GB/transfer and diffs everything has been going quite well transmission wise, apart from one thing -

when im driving in 4th or 5th gear, and shift back to 3rd, it is sometimes hard to push the gearstick in, and is usually associated with a grinding, almost like the clutch pedal isnt in - which it definitely is at the time.

could this be a synchro problem? or something else more sinister?

Might be the plastic bits on the shift folk has split (comon prob overlooked)
Syncros won't like it.

do you guys reckon i should get an EVO123 RS box (if i can find one)? or get this one rebuild/reconditioned?

do the evo boxes even fit on a VR4 block?

the rs box comes with a front lsd? correct me if im wrong :p

They do, viscous front and centre's. An EVO crownwhweel and pinion in the rear, hmm, mechanical LSD, good for heli's!

dan my car is similiar, from 2nd to 1st... occasionally does not want to go in and crunches. 3rd isnt too bad, but it does every so often... i'll ask my mechanic next time again, arghhhh...... :(

they do, but you'll have to use a 3.909 rear diff to suit

3.909 rear diffs are they LSD? can you run one of those with a GSR gearbox? cos if you cant, then im probably better off getting the whole evo drivetrain just about true?.....

It really does depend......

Some people prefer the 3.545- you dont have to change gears as much, and your max speed would be more. You probably wont have to change into 5th at the drags either.......

EVO 2 and 3 have rear LSD's. Front LSD's in the GSR spec EVO's are an option. You wont be able to use one with a GSR gearbox, as they're 3.545. What you should do, is buy jstyles gearbox and not worry any more!
