i've been having some gearbox issues lately - not shifting into third easily, being difficult shifting from 4th etc... yesterday it got worse... lost the ability to shift into 3rd and 4th gear completely. had to shift from 2nd straight to 5th to keep driving.

had racv come out today and he said that it's most likely the shifter inside the gearbox... the thing that actually changes the gears inside the gearbox

so the box has to come out and this thing has to be replaced or fixed or whatever. he said that the shifter thing inside the engine bay is fine, it's not the clutch, and he's 90% sure it's not the synchroes

i haven't had time to call darren from afas, but does he deal with gearboxes or is it better to go to jeff at techsport?

does anyone know how much it would cost to get the box out, fixed and put back in - provided that's the only problem?

do u mean the shift fork? that can be done when the clutch is done so its not as big a job as i think u believe.
The problem is theres an original design of the shift fork which wasnt too strong. A revision came out (the part number actually points to a triton in australia i believe)

i'm not too sure if it's the shift fork... that's not the one that's in the open in the engine bay is it?

the racv guy said it was the selector or something like that inside the gearbox

but if it only requires the clutch out, then it might not be as bad as i thought...

any suggestions between darren and jeff guys?

When i had problems with my 5th gear i took it to darren. He did it on the spot same day while the gearbox was still on the car (cos 5th gear is on the outer casing).. thats my only experience with darren and gearboxes and it was a quick simple and cost effective fix.

techsport hands down.....................

unlike some people he will tell you if he is unable to do something, right then and there, rather than bullshit to you and then do a shit job.

it sounds to me like its bent selector forks,if your running a vr4 gearbox then dont bother replacing them with standard ones, get the steel selector forks from an evo gear box and hopefully thats the only damage

i had similar problems when my gearbox got stuck in 4th gear and changing to 3rd was also crap, the selector forks had bent and on the way home some of it broke off and got caught in the gear cluster and ripped a sizable hole in the casing so dont leave it for too long

getting the car towed to darren tomorrow morning... jeff was busy tomorrow and darren was available, so that sealed the deal

i'll see if darren has access to an evo fork if that is the exact problem
