gearbox problems

Hi all,

im having trouble 1st gear. when the car is stationary i cannot get the box into first gear.....however if the car is rolling it goes in just fine. any ideas?

do you have a low peddle/friction point?? possibly the clutch is not quite letting go

i have checked under the car and there is free play when the clutch is released, ill get under the car tonight and see if it goes all the way in. is the only way to fix this to wind out the master cylinder rod to the peddle?

there should be a bit of free play on that rod under the car on the slave cylinder but there is a spring inside the slave cylinder to take up free play.
If you can't get 1st when stopped then obviously reverse will just grind when trying to select.then you know it is definitly clutch.
If you only have to take your pedal say 40mm off the floor and the clutch is engaged then thats most likely the problemen .adjust the master cylinder but only half a turn then try it.
Be careful adjusting the rod, because if you adjust it too much the clutch feels great but after a while of driving the freeplay starts to disappear then the clutch slips.

With the car stationary can you shift it to any other gear?
If you can, it may not be a clutch issue.

yeah i can get any other gear and reverse is fine, as i said before to the car only has to be rolling a little and it will go in first easy as

synchro?? tried goin reverse than first or second than first while ya clutch is in??

yeah tried that, and tried adjusting the linkage, well a little anyway i didnt wanna mess with it too much

im thinkin 1st synchro's effed, when ya come to a stop, leave it in 2nd, clutch in an when ya stop moving, try selecting 1st, cos it doesnt sound like clutch, slave cylinder or anything else

what ive bin doin is use 2nd to get moving then i just make sure im in first when i slow down to a stop. once i have got moving i can use first whenever need to as long as i get it in first before i stop.
