Last night i was having trouble getting into gears, intermittently.

1/N/2 - always worked
3/N/4 - Was sometimes really stiff and had to force it (no grinding or anything)
N/5 - always worked

Basically it was just really stiff/hard to go between 3 and 4, it was the same weither i was stopped or moving, the was really intermittent, atm its moving fine.

Thoughts?

check you gear box oil

When mine was having issues...excessive brass from synchros getting into slides..it did the same...changed oil and flushed with ATF 4 times..then new oil..shifted perfect from then on

Is redline shockproof GL-4?..
Becuause i know some GL-5 and other additives will be corrosive to brass and deteriorate it over time..most GL-5 grades will be harmfull to yellow metals...unless specified

If your box is healthy id guess it to be seletor cable adjustment or bushes.

Try popping your head under the hood, disconnect the cables from the box and shift the box manually. This should tell you whether its a cable/ linkage/ bush problem , or whether its an internal gear box problem.

I would expect that if it picks 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse ok, then it should pick 3rd and 4th ok as well as the 3/4th action is straight up and down and doesn't rely so much on the bushes in the shifter mechanism.

It was replaced umm :?: 2000km's ago with reline shockproof

GET RID OF IT!!!!!! IT DETERIORATES YOUR SYNCRO'S and can lead to gbox failure, theres a thread on here somewhere, with alot of people having problems with the use of redline in their vr4 gbox's.

i asked shep what fluid i should use, he suggested that i use redline oil....
although i am using motul ff lsd oil in my box, redline was next on my list...

It was recommended to me to use Redline MTL90 (I think it was) as I was told that shockproof didn't suit the synchros. Didn't notice any difference from the Motul stuff I regularly use though.

Maybe try adding some Friction Modifier to the box and see if that makes a difference. If it does, then from my limited understanding of gearboxes, that would point towards worn synchros and hubs.

Mitsubishi recommend the use of friction modified gear oils in almost all their cars.

Update:
The issue seams to be primarily with 3rd gear, and 4th a little.
I can drive fine, as long as i skip 3rd (4th sometimes gets a lil hard)

Would i be safe to assume its a issue with the box ? Selector ?

i have the same issues but with 2nd and 3rd once i get a postie bike i will rebuild the box

also a used the redline shockproof and now my box is bleeding blue
