Okay, i'm trying to clear up all the he said she said about the gearboxes on RVRs, so i need some help.

What will directly bolt back into my '94 SSG ? Do i have to get another RVR manual box, or can I use a VR4/EVO or GSR box to bolt in?

It looks sounds/feels like the synchros to 1-2 and 2-3 are stuffed, it jams into gear if i quickly shift, but if i take my time it drops straight in.

I'm getting a bit over it, as i want to head upto our local strip with my club and do a few 1.8th mile runs etc and do some track work.

Thanks guys.

Pete.

evo and rvr are interchange able......VR4 wont fit your car.

GSR gearboxes will also fit but are a different ratio 3.545 versus 3.909 for the rvr and evo.

in terms of putting and rvr box into a gsr recently.....there were no hiccups at all. everything just went straight in.

now your hard part....finding one over here

So I am fine with using an Evo box if i need too ?

What about if i find a VR4 box and basically swap over all the internals ?

So I am fine with using an Evo box if i need too ? yes...but if you get the evo 3 dont forget the transfer as well.

What about if i find a VR4 box and basically swap over all the internals ?....why bother? if you are going to fix a box...fix yours.

fix your gearbox, at least you know all of its problem areas. just put synchroes, input and secondary shaft bearings, and seals in it. be gentle on shifts till its done cause you are ripping metal off the sliders

what i meant was, can i use the vr4 internals in my rvr box if i get stuck ?

mmm......I dont have the knowledge to give a definitive answer on this.... however the rvr boxes I have pulled apart have been mostly the same as an evo 3 box....so I dont think the VR4 is an easy interchange.

pull your box and get jack to help you. he has done one before and it still works too....:)

thanks for that Jack + Bm.

Wouldn't have part numbers for bits would you please?

all parts and prices are found on jackstransmissions site.
http://www.jackstransmissions.com/pages/mits-parts

there are some issues for some on here regards postage and comms from jacks, but use the pricing as a guide even if you get parts from somewhere else. if you get parts from australia they will be 3-4 times the price.

i can do it if you pull box, payment in rum and $100 notes. may take a month to get parts here tho, and brian actually likes building boxes and has done more of them than i have. you can test drive the box i built if you want next time you in perth

There are many different components throughout the years than can match up together, then there are also many different components that dont. Too many to write about here and you wont read it about them anywhere lol. It comes from experience with the variety of W5M33 gearboxes.
Not all RVR boxes are the same either. I recently opened a ZZML code RVR box which is documented in some places to be same as EVO III but its a load of crap. I've come to the conclusion the RVR engines (non EVO III model version) and the ZZML transmissions at least are siblings with the 2G Eclipse engine and gearboxes. The RVR uses a 3.08 first gear and a big hub 3rd/4th slider setup as per Eclispe, GSR, VR4 and early EVO 1. All synchros were single synchro except 2nd gear. The ZZML I opened also has a 57 tooth front diff crownwheel = same as 2G Eclipse. These mated with 1.074 transfer cases.
