ok people quick crash course in automotive paints

the white and red are a solid colour and are mixed with a hardener ,the same harderner u add 2 clear, its just 2 pack. that way it hardens and stays glossy.

Metalics need a clear coat to protect the mica (pearl) and metalic particles in the paintwork (thats what makes it sparkly and makes colours shift) and to also give it that beautiful shine because metalic basecoats are dull and wouldnt last long at all in the aussie sun.

SO...

METALLIC=Clearcoat

SOLID=No Clearcoat... but it fades quicker, reds and yellows have a slight amount of lead in them which means they oxadise (fade aloot quicker)but they can easily be polished up like new. but, polish too much and u will polish all the colour off

any questions? :)

The clear is actually laid over metallic base coats because if you try to buff them without clear the metallic flake actually gets flattened and looks like crap :)
