Genunine Evo 1-3s in Australia

So I was talking to Duane on here and we agreed that it would be helpful to pool together the collective knowledge of the forum as to all the genuine 1-3s in Australia. I don't think anyone has done this before.

The resource would be great given the number of cars being passed off as genuine cars these days!

I guess I'll start with all the cars I have come across over the years:

E1 - White - mine. Owned it since 2000. I think it had two owners before me - all Sydney based.

E1 - White - brought in by a guy called Dave who used to have a way to bring in cars as personal imports through friends from Japan. Got offered this car when I was looking for what ended up being my car.

E1 - Red - first car brought in by Dave (above).

E1 - Green - brought in by Dave and then owned by a girl (Lauren?) before it went to WA. I think it was the one that was sold again about 3/4 months ago.

E3 - White - I think it had the number plate EVO-*** - spotted at the BD4s workshop about 3-4 years ago.

Please add/edit the above if you know whats happened to these cars, or you'd like to add cars you've come across. Obviously people feel uncomfortable posting up regos or VIN numbers, so have left this out.

what do you class as genuine?

- personal imports
- Victorian rebuild scheme
- real cd9a/ce9a on firewall with aussie build plates
- rally import

all the above are real evo 1-3s that originated from Japan

Any genuine evo 1-3 that can be registered in Australia. There's not to many out there so would be good to get a rough idea of how many are here

Well...some....dont classify a cd/ce9a with aussie gsr tags to be a "genuine" Evo so was seeking clarification on this I guess. As was JonZap.

Classic example.... REPV vehicles cannot be registered in NSW but can be in Victoria (as we all know)
So does this exclude them as they can only be registered in certain parts of Australia?

I currently ... Till paid for have two. Real evo's 1 is a three with two kit registered as s gsr .. And an repv evo one.

for the sake of this list i say and this is my own opinion. genuine 1 2 3's with australian gsr plates can be counted but these should be noted as they fall in a very very dark almost black section of grey.
yellow plate/personal imports straight up classify
gsr rebuild into evo 1-3 DO NOT COUNT this includes the vic rebirths

i beleive there is two genuine 2s or 3s in qld from the same owner

i'd count all that have a genuine evo vin that STARTED as evo's as evos and if they can be registered anywhere in australia they count. but restrictions in place on them should be noted.

Not all of them alot are gsrs that have had evo bits installed and then a repv vin assigned alongside an evo chasis designation

Duane and I debated how to define "genuine" cars. I guess it depends on:
a) factory evos with yellow plates - most true to their identity
b) factory evos that have had identity changes - either rebuilds or registered with Australia chassis numbers (eg gsrs or glxis etc)

I think we can agree that GSRs (or other "copies") with evo components aren't Evos.

I think a good compromise would be to include rebuilds so long as they are still the original chassis, not converted. This is because you can still say it was a factory Evo. A bit like how a lot of classic cars are converted from LHD to RHD. They're not as original as they once were, but they were still made in the same factory!

To me this is an exercise in trying to work out the size of our community. We all know that Mitsubishi made circa 5,000 of each model 1,2,and 3. But who knows how many are left? There have been heaps cut up for parts, destroyed in rallies, or turned into race/rally cars.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to give a figure for how many of our cars are left? A lot of exotic brands (eg Porsche) or even Subaru (think 400 original Australian STis) or Nissan (200 Australian R32 GTRs), track this really well.

Yellow plates

E1 x4
E3 x 4 (NSW x 1, Qld x 3)

REPV

BMTZ's E(?)

What were Travis's 2s?

one was a yellow and ones a REP vin, there genuine , but vic Roads supplied the REP vin at the time , but didnt take down the evo CE9A etc , then they did a recall , so for every car with a REP vin has to basically be inspected by Vic roads before you can pay the registration again , my evo 2 has had this inspection, and its never going to be sold so I kept the REP and sold the yellow off

if your going to do this , you will need to do a section or first post with CD5A , CD9A , CE9A , and let everyone post the number if they want to do so, also I wouldnt worry if its a rally reg etc but just note it , this would be better for number counting

VIN and chassis number are the same thing



if there isn't a Japanese VIN posted then this thread won't have much value
