Hey guys, havent really had any response on couple other forums so i thought id ask here.

Im after a complete closed door respray for my red cc coupe with mirrors and door handles colour coded to match.
Possibly looking to go a slighter different shade of red as the cc red is almost pink red. I would be wanting to go "Hot Red" as seen on holden vy/vz and above models.
The door pillars need to be resprayed black as they have faded quite a bit.

Does anybody know of a paint shop with a good rep that isnt over priced?
Im looking to spend around $1500 tops, and will be paid in cash if that helps.

Any information/help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Lachy

There are a few people on here that may point you in right direction. Evopwr is apparently really good with his work. He might be able to point you in the right direction. He helped me with info on prep work and was really helpful :)

I painted my bodykit using ausie export paint :p was such a close match to out original color

ive never painted anything on a car in my life.
i want it to be decent so id rather not do it myself, plus i dont really have the room or resources at home.

id supply all the paint and other different coats such as primer, clear coat and whatever else is necessary, id just need to be told what to buy and where to get it from thats all.
if anybody is willing to take this on then hit me up, i will be able to fund this as soon as i get my tax return (i do it straight away so shouldnt be too far off.. couple months tops).

you will be paid cash.
there is no rush... so no pressure to get it done by a certain date, as ive had a major injury from an accident at work so i wont be driving for probably 6 months.

any interest please pm me!

PM Kaotik on these forums.
He is currently doing all my paint work.

Another shop that we 4g guys use is Tropic Motors.

As for your price... You might get away with spraying 1/2 your car...

Theres a place in Bayswater on scorseby rd that apparently does resprays from $500.. not sure what quality/condition that is but may be worthwhile checking it out for you.. they're right next to the old techsport.

A whole car of lancer size will require approx 5Lt of primer + 5Lt paint + thinners + hardeners + consumables, which will be close to if not $500. Now since you want to do closed door spray, quantity of paint is slightly less so can assume $300 for decent (not high grade) paint.

I wouldn't be surprised if alot of places will say no to close door sprays - as generally a 'quality' spray job cannot be preformed doing it this way.

Sanding the car + panels down, and prepping surfaces ready for paint could easily take a day (10hrs).
Spraying the car could take 3 hrs, add 1 hour for black strips around the windows.
Putting all panels back together may take another 2 hours.

So minimum work for a competent person would be 2 full days. even at $20/hr thats $400.

Quality of the finished product will also depend if the job was air dried or oven dried. How many back-yarders have an oven the size of a garage?

My garage is an oven in summer :p

DONT get xxxbodykits to do it. I used to work for Alfa a few years ago and a yellow spider came in coz it wouldn't start. All custom fiberglass interior. Custom body kit. Custom paint. Opened the doors and there was the original color. Fold mirrors in and there was the original color. And the paint where the soft top folds down was starting to peel

Yeah i had a quote to paint n fit a complete body kit (that i already was supplying) on my old ce coupe from xxx bodykits and i was told $2.2K LOL

In the process of speaking to "kaotik" at the moment, hopefully we can work something out :)

If that fails and you don't mind bringing the car to Ballarat I can sort something out for you. It will take about a week end to end, but is definately possible.

DT are overpriced, got quoted $3k for respray which included colour coding mirrors/handles, and redoing my door pillars black.
+ another $500 to have glass taken out n put back in which was optional.

I dont know that these places are over priced, I think you may be expecting to much with your current budget

for a closed door respray, personally i think $3k is ridiculous. I may be out of line in saying that, buts thats just my opinion.

Lachy, if a shop quoted you $3k to do the work you described below thats a good price IMO.
$800-$1500 wouldnt even get a backyarder to do the job in NSW - no $$ in it for them for prepwork, paints and supplies and then spraying and finishing.
I got a coupe painted about 6 or 7 years ago by a backyarder for $800 and its unheard of anymore for that price due to paint and meterial costs.

Looks like us NSW boys are better to go south of the border to get our cars painted because your prices are cheap compared to what shops & backyarders charge up this way
Backyarders usually paint for about $1500 minimum to $3000.
Guys who work in shops during the week and do side jobs on weekends charge anything from $3000-$4500.
Shops here rarely charge under $6000!!! (full respray including door jams but not engine bay).

Recent quotes:
Angelo's front bar, bonnet, sideskirts, rear pods and wing are currently in a 'cheap' shop and he's getitng charged $800 to paint those parts without fitting.
My sister's boyfiriend's Supra which he only wants to repaint the stock silver colour on the outside and bodykit, was quoted a rediculous $8,000 from another shop.
I've got a bootlid at a shop I dropped off yesterday to get the lock shaved and boot lid painted gloss black (took him 10 mins to grind around the lock, cut a circle out of sheet metal, spot weld it in place and grind the welds down whilst I was talking to him! lol). He was going to fill it today then sand and prep it for painting and pickup Friday afternoon. I'll let you know what price I get charged just for that
