GSR 4G93 BRAKES OVERHAUL

Hi guys,

Has anyone here had any luck/experience with replacing all the pads and rotors on their 94 Lancer GSR? Is anyone able to help us out with a link with good video procedures or clear paper instructions?

I originally wanted to just take it to the local brakes mechanic, but I've run out of money. I can get my hands on some standard pads and rotors, dont want to go upgrading to street package coz I cant affort it? I've looked at a few vids on youtube but I cant find any that are specific to the 94 lancer or even another year closer to my 94 GSR.

I was thinking (as per youtube instruction lol) take the brake calliper off, take the pads off, take the old rotor off and insert the new one, replace with new pad and attach calliper.

I'm waiting for the replys to come back saying...nah, just take it to your local brake specialist! bahaha!

A brake refresh pads and rotors is a very similar process across all vehicles to do the rears though you do kind of need a special tool often refereed to as a brake calliper cube this is because our handbrake on the rear is a screw type. So to set the calliper bake into the housing you have to screw the piston back in

Yeah I've seen youtube clips about that. I was dead set on taking it to the local Brake Specialist but after blowing my cash on other things and seeing what they were gonna charge me just to overhaul 'standard' brakes (not upgraded) I had to rethink my strategy. Something as important as the brakes on a vehicle are not to be overlooked and need to be done correctly, but I was thinking that if it was as easy as I thought then I could save money and do it myself.

i havent done them on my gsr but did them on my old tj magna and it was very easy (im guessing they would be similar), just make sure you dont kink the brake line hang it up on some wire or something and i used a g clamp to push the piston back in but if you only need to screw it in should be fairly easy if you have the special tool Khubner is talking about

you shouldnt go this far, you should still have the brake line connected, this is just to show you the piston that needs to be pushed in to fit the new pads

Thats awesome Matt! I've seen that many brake videos on so many different cars that I totally get and understand everything you've pictured. Awesome to see that your willing to help a brother out. Thanks heaps buddy. I'm picking up the pads and rotors tomorrow and will have the car on jacks all of next week while on Annual Leave to do the brakes, lifters, manifold and TD05 overhaul. With my very limited motor mechanic knowledge this should be interesting! lol

if i someone who had never done anymore than tyre changes and filling up can rebuild/overhaul an engine and perform a boosted engine/brakes swap with zero mechanical knowledge you should be right just be sure to remember how everything came apart and put it back together the same way
