1. Does anyone have any info on them? ive heard gsr rods are weak? they can like handle a max of 14-16psi before they can bend or put a hole on the side of the block over time. Ive been on 14psi but maybe i'll drop to 12psi to be safe.

2. Soon im getting ecu reprogged for more power, fuel pump, evo 3 injectors . Would it have an impact on the stock rods/piston? If im still set to 12psi?. Ive currently got full 2.5' exhaust mandrel, 600x300x76 IC, & set at 14psi.

3. :? :( :? :?: :?:   :D

1. Not that i've heard, could be wrong.

2. Aftermarket or reflashed chip? Damage caused is really due to the way it's driven rather than what it's got :) I don't think the 4g93 is really that weak because there are guys on here that run 20psi through them all day long.

The 4G93 rods are tiny. Personally i wouldn't be chancing more than 16psi on stock 4G93 rods... again. I can post a pic tomorrow of what the stock rod looks like.

Flashed ECU, 2.5" exhaust , 600x300x76 I/C, & 14psi you shouldn't see to many dramas though i wouldn't think.

My chip will be reflashed from someone named dave vr4play, i was told. Since my IC went on i switched to 14psi and kept it at that till now & no dramas. Zedex you could you post some pics i would like to see how tiny these rods are lol :). Entaran going for 20psi is suicide or maybe an excuse to blow a rod thru block then afterwards on, buy a set forged rods, pistons to get fitted heheh. Ive once set wastegate to 18psi i had too much exh gas velocity i hit 25psi for like couple of seconds surprisingly no boost cut, no ping, this was with stock gear.

Heh you'll prolly wind up with an almost duplicate of my old chip then :) When i had my 1.8Lt Dave did alot of datalogging and i think we even used the wideband to ensure we got a good (but safe) tune.

I had:
EVO MAF
EVO III Fuel Pump
EVO 510cc Injectors
EVO III Turbo
3" Exhaust
EVO III Intercooler and piping

I'll try get those pics for you tomorrow.

a bad tune and detonation are also causes for rod failures not boost alone, some people get away with running higher boost as they will be well tuned and under the detonation threshold

you either take the risk or you dont-if the engine is really healthy then it would support higher boost but at the end of the day running 20psi will take its toll eventualy

getting gsr's tuned on the dyno by someone who knows them inside out is a must

A bad tune and detonation are a far more likely cause of piston failure rather than rod but in some cases it can contribute to rod failures. The problem with the rods is that they are small in design and can't handle big power. You could prolly run 20psi happily if you ran it really rich enough because it will limit your power out put. If you run it at 16psi but tune it aggressive (not to the point of detonation) with enough mods to make decent power that to could cause rod failure. Its all to do with the rods tolerance to with stand a certain amount of power, as with everything the fresher the motor is the longer it will last under those conditions but won't necessarily last forever.

i'd be leaving your boost at 14psi with those stock rods.. there like anorexic toothpicks compared to my argo rods..

also be weary of your pistons as well.. my old ones were silicon coated and they cracked due to detonation and a long hard drag day.. running 21psi as well..

from personal experience.. it all comes down to the tuning of the car, so make sure your tuner knows his shit..

i havent tried him..
but a few people on the forums here have given the thumbs up to VR4Play

GSR rod snappages teand to be a bearing failure where the rod "grabs" the crank and tries to spin around with it - SNAP! In other cars with stronger rods where the bearing fails, the rod resists the snap and the bearing disintergrates. Because the GSR rods are so thin, they let go first.

Heres an example of a GSR rod
sitting next to a Mazda B6 Turbo rod [right - from a 1.6L turbo 323/TX3 BFMR(F)/BFMP(F)]. You can see how puny they are in comparison!!!

Hi guys,

I know this is an old thread, but I'm looking at that pic above. Is there a possibility to fit Mazda B6 Turbo rods in 4g93 engine?

Thanks.

Yes, you can fit the Mazda B6T rods into a 4G93/P/T plus also use Toyota 4AGZE pistons (forged from factory) and you can have a cheap strong bottom end. There's a few little things you have to do first to get the right height of the block etc, but it can and has been done a few times. People who have done it like to keep those sorts of things secret :)

LOL yerp secretttttt :smt115

I had 4AGZE pistons in my motor i built that made 230kw and ran 12.1 @ 116mph ;)

however the rods i cant disclose! hehehehhehehe they arent mazda ones!

factory they are needles too.. and they make the pistons stick out of the block (too tall)

;)

So what adjustments have to be made in roder to make Toyota 4AGZE pistons work? Are they the same height as our pistons?

Did you use b16a eagle rods?

BTW: I have 2 engines 4g93 and 4g94, both sohc. Is there any combo that we could do, for example 4g93 block and 4g94 crank? Please don't quote me on this, I'm just throwing ideas.

Thanks.

Also, if I would use b16a forged rods so why not use b16a pistons. I know that JSTYLE said that they would stick out, but if they were low compression, than would that be the same case?

Which pistons can we use with b16a rods? Can I use 4g94 11.0:1 ROSS pistons (that's what I have in my old block.)
