GSR Driveline

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

I think they are both the same 'strength' wise.

I think they differ only in terms of ratios and the option of LSD in the EVO.

Also the double syncros on first and second in the EVO box and steel selector forks.

evo gear box will handle more power than a gsr for the above reasons,

only difference in rear diff is lsd

SOME GSRs came with a double cone 2nd gear synchro (The RS and Facelift NRWE box) Which also had a front LSD. You can fit Evo selectors into 1st and 2nd only however.

Barring the selector forks (All of which can go into normal NRBE GSR boxes) they are every bit as strong as an Evo box - and if you're into drag racing the 3.545 diff ratio is a better choice than the 3.909 of the Evos.

Evo LSDs can also go into GSR rear diffs aswell.

so the best thing to do would find a EVO 3 box,
but that would be hard to get???

if your not puting 500hp though the gsr drivline it will be ok Im pretty sure it will hold up no probs

What sort of power are you looking at?

I remember Todd who owned NFORCA GSR told me he was breaking the rear GSR axles with only 250kw atw so he used evo axles and LSD or something??? but what I do know is that Andre from Speedtech wasnt breaking axles until he got to around 800hp with very sticky tyres  I remember this being somewhat of the bug bear a few years back as it depended on temperature, tyres and the track he raced on as to whether the stock axles would break or not. Not sure if hes got billet items now though? It's hard to say man as dont really hear much about it as I dont think its a common problem for the majority of modders who dont venture beyond 600hp+. However, one of the guys in the coupe forum didnt have his engine/gearbox at the correct angle up front (i.e. custom made engine mounts and diff hanger) and would break front axles with not much power over 200kw atw due to the incorrect angle of the drivetrain.

If you want Strength on a budget use vr4 internals in your evo/gsr gearbox.
3rd gear and the middle diff gears are way thicker  .
We can still use twin syncro second as an option but will cost some dollars.
Been using these as an option for a while.
Evo 1-3 and gsr both always sheer teeth of third and middle diff crownwheel.Seen it on many boxes.
Never seen it on a vr4.
