the other night me and a couple of mates were in a typicall discussion on cars when a GSR was mentioned
as i stood strong saying how good they are, they reffered to it as a 'car that gets ripped by tx3 awd turbos'


im pretty sure that a stock GSR should rip a tx3's ass off but didnt have the times to prove it.
so, does any one have REAL 1/4mile times for stock GSRs and EVOs .. i mean no BS mitsu claims.

oh; and how much $$ of mods would bring a GSR to low 13s.

ive seen mid 13 with a GSR with exhaust, VR4 intercooler, clutch and boost (ie ex-Phillcom car)

Just remind them that a TX3 will dump its gearbox after a few launches. worse than rex's

TX3's are ****-model excuses of Ford (lack of) engineering. Theyre ugly, theyre slow, they have piss-weak drivetrains and engines, and theyre also very ugly, did i mention that they were ugly? :lol:
 
88 model thats the hatch/bubble looking one, it is also 4wd drive though

yeh thats because they cant afford a real 4wd ;)


hmmm from the figures it seems that a gsr and laser are pretty equivilent in 0-100 / 1/4mile times... :(

are the ford tx5's just reshelled mazda 323's???
the familia gtrs???

stock gsr's are good off the line.. but top end lacks a little... (stock anyway)
im sure it'll clean up the tx3 though

But read into the drivetrain....Weaker than a WRX, which is worse than a gsr even :lol:
 
im not doubting the all mighty 4g :))) but how can you tell that one drivetrain is stronger than the other??
4wd's were ment to be launched at the line with rediculous rpm ; so wouldnt all laser/rex/evo/gsr drivetrains suffer & eventually blow ??
are the mitsu drivetrains made of more tensile material or are the weak joints reinforced with extra welding?!?

i know the mitsu is better; i just need some good arguments when trying to convince people WHY the evo is better!! :D :D
 
It's thicker.

That's pretty much how it works. Also, viscous centre.

TX3 turbo's don't have a centre lsd, they just have a right angle drive tha'ts permanent 50/50 front/rear. They also have fairy floss driveshafts and routinely snap 3rd gear and their transfer case splines.

Like baz said, they're actually engineered by MAZDA.

My first turbocharged car was a BFMR '88 1600 4WD DOHC turbo, and I can tell you now these cars are NOT slow when modified properly.

The weakest link in these cars are the gearboxes, but in saying that the guy who I sold my old mazda to dropped in a later model famila GT-X (180hp stock) engine and could pull easy low 13's. Thats nothing to laugh over. Sure, he broke 3 gearboxes along the way, but after he sourced a familia GT-R gearbox, he didnt have many problems after that.

I dont mind the mazdas, but yes, the fords arent the best looking cars.

Coming from a person that owns a TX3 I can say that a 4g will rip all over a tx3 when you look at stock times. The biggest problem is gear box issues and the week as piss con rods in the BPT?s (GTX engine) but quite a few people are converting them to FWD or do conversions and putting these thing down the track in the high 12?s.

At the moment there is talk of a aftermarket gear box to be made for these car that will stop a lot of these problems. So if this goes ahead you could easly see these this getting down the track at some healthy times.

At the moment my car would do about a mid 13 sec it has:
Full White line suspension package
Aftermarket ECU tuned for 95 ron fuel
Customer headers
VF24bb turbo
Custom dump and zorst
And also quite a few other goodies.

The ones you might want to look out for are the GTR?s (BPD engine) they are a almost bullet proof engine that put out a crappy 160kw stock but with a few mods and boost these can easily get to the 210+ make atw.

I also know that with a mild take off (Not going stupid with the launch like i would :lol: ) a mates 100% STOCK EVO III ran a 13.6@98mph up here in townsville (Not the best track & HOT)
So with a realy good take off you could get it down to maybe a few tenth's off that time. Now that i have a EVO III, it seems right with that time. Put an exhaust & run 1.0-1.2 bar boost & you'll be in the high 12's easy. I'll keep you posted when the exhaust gets fitted in the next few weeks. 8)
 
A friend ran a 13.7 in his EVO 1 with a 3" exhaust and 18" wheels. Apart from that it was bone stock.
