GSR / EVO wiring info needed...

I'm after a bit of a heads up here.. I've just purchased climate control parts. (I'm picking them up on Tuesday..) And need to know some info... I've had a good look through the posts on here and can't find exactly what I'm after..

There's a few questions here so I hope you can help us out.. There mainly wiring related.

Now I also have evo3 folding side mirrors with dash switch.

1, do I need any other parts other then wiring to make these work... I think I've seen a smallish black relay box ??

Now on to the climate control and wiring, I have the 3 boxes with the servos on them, the digital facia, and an evo3 dash wiring harness..

My car is a 94 GSR and I am leaving the 4g93t motor in it but want to run all the evo / jap spec GSR options.. So basically turn it into a jap spec GSR.

2, if I run the evo3 dash wiring harness so the climate control will plug in, will I be able to straight plug my GSR motor harness into it ?

I know I need the temp sensor up front for the climate control !

3, what harness does the temp sensor plug into, is it the front body harness ie the one that the headlight wires are in?

4, if above is yes then should I use an evo3 harness here and will it create issues else where ?

5, Is the wiring/plugs that head out of the front pillars that connect to the front doors for the front power windows and mirrors etc part of the dash loom or a separate loom ?

I also have an evo rear window with wiper, pump and long hose for the front washer bottle and the dash switch..

6, I assume I just use a evo 3 rear harness to sort the rear section out ? And does the evo3 front body harness sort the washer bottle side of things ??

I know it would be easiest to just use a complete jap Spec GSR harness front to back but I'm having a lot of trouble finding one !

I think it was K or G that says the fan ballast is different and specific to that system.
there is a aircon loom that probably runs the air temp sensor to the front, it is the first plug in the engine loom that is inside the engine bay. This loom also has the washer bottle on it.

Thinking about it but not having looked at the diagrams, I think you will need the aircon loom, dash loom, engine loom and the body loom that runs from near the fusebox (in car) to the tail lights.
But you dont need a heap of wires extra, so you could just add the wires and re wrap the loom. Except the dash loom, it will be easier to have this one.

I would download the wiring diagrams and compare the one you have and the one you want. Maybe draw in the wires you need and what pin in the connector they use. Compare connectors and check you have the right ones.
While uour loom is still in. Mark the exit points and the length required. Remove loom and add wires.

Honestly, prepare for a headache job to get everything working as per oem Evo unless you can get your hands on an EVO (GSR model, not RS) or Japspec GSR interior loom and engine bay loom.
The door looms in the EVO use a 5 wire plug for the fold away mirrors. The GSR only has 3 wires and a different plug setup.
There's more to 'all the wiring' than what people think.

Thats what I would have thought.
You have to compare the wiring diagrams for plug info and everything. Then you need to get those or other plugs.
Depends how oem you want it. You can just run the wires next to the loom and skip the connectors, or try and duplicate the factory setup.

Wiring is not really an issue for me, done plenty of conversions and rewires... After re-reading my first post, It was like 3am and I couldn't sleep as I had so much crap going through my head and I think I was just spewing shit out that my head was thinking... LoL

I think what I was basically trying to say is if I use a complete harness from an evo (non rs) will my motor harness from my 4G93T plug in to it with my stock ecu and work or will I need to do some wiring to make it work....

If you are keeping the 4G93T engine, 4G93T ecu and 4G93T engine harness, it should work as there will be no reason for it not to. But if going to a 4G63 engine and ecu later, whilst still keeping the 4G93T engine loom, you will need to extend and relocate alternator wires to suit the 4G63 engine position, plus good possibility the thermo fans wont work. It was hit and miss with the thermos during some of the conversions I did. Also the pinout for the radiator water temp sensor [bottom of radiator] might not align up in the right spot with the evo ecu as the evo grabbed water temp from near the thermostat.

If you get your hands on an evo interior loom it'll plug straight into the GSR harness behind the glove box.
BUT, you have to be mindful of the evo accessories that require sensors and wires and fusible links in the engine bay.
e.g.
EVO climate control doesn't need an outside temp sensor if you're not going to have aircon setup. The outside sensor runs via a wire and resistor along the passenger side of the engine bay and bolts to the radiator support frame (under the bonnet latch) at the front of the car.
EVO climate control needs all the additional electric motors that control the opening/closing of the vents.
EVO climate control also has a sensor in the aircon box under the dashboard, and also up under the dash near the demister/windscreen
EVO climate control will obviously need the climate control head unit and evo interior wiring loom to work.
EVO aircon switch in the climate control ... totally different setup. You will need to check the pinouts from the evo loom ecu and cross reference them with the gsr ecu.
EVO fold in mirrors use the controller to the right of the steering wheel. You will need the evo interior loom to get the correct plug and wiring/ relay/ power feed to operate them.
EVO interior loom has a 5-wire plug that connects to EVO 5-wire door loom for the fold in mirrors. As mentioned, GSR only has 3 wires. You can make an extra little harness for the extra 2 wires, but you will need to cut off the evo fold away mirrors plug and use your own 5-wire plug or connectors.
EVO has an intercooler sprayer switch in the centre console. It goes to a second motor In the wiper/windscreen washer bottle reservoir which then pumps water to the sprayers in the front of evo front bars. you will need to get a twin pump reservoir and also make up your own wiring to the reservoir then out to the front of the car.
EVO III has a special 2-switch button above the right hand drivers vent for front and rear fog lights. It uses a special Y-connector in the EVO III only dashboard which plugs into the switch to make both buttons work. As a result, you will need to do some wiring behind the switch for front foglights and again in the rear harness for the tail light foglights.
EVO also uses a buzzer and light surround around the ignition barrel. Make sure if you get an evo loom that you also get the timer / beeper box (which bolts up on the vertical support behind the stereo, and also the plastic circular light that fits around the ignition barrel.
EVO has a slightly different location for the handbrake light in the gauges cluster than the GSR does from memory so you may need to swap out the side sections of the EVO cluster for GSR items (if you are going to use an EVO cluster).
umm... probably more but at this point in time not coming to me.
Even if you do all the above you might find yourself spending countless amount of hours doing it and probably chasing up gremlins, checking pin outs and testing wires for power and signal.
It really does save a hell of a lot of hassle and time if you could actually locate all the bits you need first for an easy conversion before getting stuck into it.

I'll see what I get tomorrow once I pick up the climate control gear.. And go from there..

The car Is now off road for the rebuild and I'm trying to collect everything I want for it then I'll piece it all together to make sure it all works etc, then it will be stripped to a bare shell for paint and built from there...

I so wish I could find a jap spec GSR harness, Just for the ez of it all.. I'll keep lookin..

Hey,

you guys seem to be some sort of PROs regarding evo3 harness...

i converted my car to LHD and now i cant sort this sh*t out, i cant get the LHD switch working and also the RHD switch seems to be different than the documented wiring diagrams.


is someone here who might be able or want to help me sort this freaking thing out?

OMG i missed a very important word "LIGHT Switch", sorry guys...

i already corrected the power windows, they were not the problem and totally easy...

wow, i found the problem, my light switch was broken, tested another and found correct wiring after 5 minutes...wow 6 months of trouble it turns out it was the light switch...
will post info regarding this later when i finished fitting cables correctly in the car =)
