The ECU doesnt read "boost" as such. It is calculated from the air passing thru the AFM. So , from pre determined calculations using air density, air temp, revs etc etc , it determines a derived boost figure. Thats why if you are close to the limit in the ECU, it is more likely to boost cut on a cold night when air is denser.
 
that's a control solenoid not a sensor. for him to be running 20psi the ecu is either chips and tuned or the solenoid is bypassed
 
Boost solenoid is totally bypassed because it's broken. Using one of those little blue bleed valves because that's what came with the car.
So pretty much it's just running out of those pre programmed afr blocks to use? therefore there's nothing I can do until I change the computer/have it tuned?

Yeh I got it stable the other day at 20psi
Actually solved the stutter I had (might have been the re gapping, not increased boost) in fifth gear when cruising down the freeway, if I gave it enough throttle to bring it to about 3 or 4 pounds, then let off, it would sort of lurch forward a bit, but that's gone now :)
 
Had a TD05 16G on it, idk if it was big or small. I need daily driving power, not drag racing top speeds. It was a pig of a thing to drive, laggy as f*ck. Don't see why people would want to downgrade to that thing on a GSR anyway.
I MIGHT put a 14b on it, idk. But there doesn't seem to be much wrong with the current one except the centre seal is probably stuffed.
 
i'm running a td05 16g on my 1.8l and i must say once i had the 510cc evo ecu and afm to back it up it was quite a good turbo for the car. it did lack alil torque off boost sub 1.5k rpm once over there your building mani presure and seeing 0 to pos by 2.5k the small td04 i will say is much more snappy but tbh for a streeter i'd rather a more linear onset of boost. rather than either on or off

What do you do when you run out of power half way through 3rd gear?? If you are running a forged motor, you may as well make the most of it... 20+ psi on a 16g and your car will come alive.

Oh I'm sure it would, but I'm too poor to buy a turbo and make the modifications at the moment :D And I went to all the hassle of fitting up the TD04 so I'll be using that until it dies
 
You poor bastard! Surely someone has a Td05 14b lying around they can donate to the cause? What about brian?

Or perhaps start a 'Help 3VOLUTIONIST get a TD05' fund haha

Plenty of cars have run 12's with the old 14b's... which are mostly being used paperweights these days!
