GSR wheel nuts - torque spec

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

The guys at Beaurepairs told me they torqued the wheel nuts on my EVO hubs to 80 ft.lbs from what I remember. Somebody else has told me 125Nm.

If in doubt, do them up and then stand on the wheel brace for that extra bit. Don't overdo them.

yeah wasn't sure if there's a specific torque-amount.
I'll go with wheel brace - not too tight amount.
Thanks all.

Finger tight and then back a quarter of a turn
lol you bastard.
You don't work for Jax tyres do you?
long story...

Rattle gun! Why worry, just make sure they are not coming undone any time soon by them selves.

You dont want a broken wheel stud, theyre F*****cked.
No rattle gun...or a tleast just nip it if ur using one.

Tight enough for your missus to get them off one shop told me..

funny you should say that, a mate of mine would be extra happy with a chick if she could change his tyres over at the track for him:)

You would have to have like a 3/4" drive rattle gun to snap wheel studs, seriouisly guys go into ANY workshop and I reckon unless the power is off or it is like lambo dealership all the mechanics will be doing your wheel nuts up with rattleguns.
Mine is quoted as 850ftlb I usually ave it set on 1/2 for normal wheel nuts and even less for lock nuts ( so when the fuckers come in with a lost key they are easier to get off with a chisel!) Just don't sit there with it at full power rattiling away like you would trying to get somthing undone..
If you had it loose enough for your missus to get them undone that would be WAY to loose!

Yeah what your sayin there is right, and you sound like you know how to use the equipment properly, were i was coming from is when jokers rattle the shit out of them and over torque the wheel studs, says its a 12.9 stud, or a 10.9...whichever it is, for a 12mm thread, its only gonna be at around 90-130 Nm...which is usually easily acheivable with a good go with a breaker bar or 4 point wheel brace

I have my torque wrench set at 90ft.lbs for tapered STEEL wheel nuts on alloy wheels. My Rays aluminium wheel nuts are set to a lessor torque (can't remember what it is off hand).
The VR4 manual says 90-110Nm (65-80 ft.lbs).

if you go to a workshop that still does your wheel nuts up with a rattle gun they arent worth going to.
wheel nuts (depending on what type) are ment to be done up to between 64 and 90ft lb. most tyres shops i have been to do them to around the 70 mark. i know a lot of rally guys do about 90.
if you do this with a torque wrench, it really doesnt feel like much, but you will never find a wheel nut come loose at this torque when all is done properly.
