Got my manifold last week which i am rapt with, thank you GT PUMPS!! but i am having troubles getting it to seal. At first it was leaking from the turbo, but worked out one of the bolts was bottoming out, so that fixed that. But now it seems to be leaking from the head so i dunno whats going on? any idea's??

nah coz i have had the manifold on and off the car a few times now and it does't look like any of them have snapped?? the next thing i am gunna try is doubling up the manifold gaskets on the head??

Gasket Goo'd it, and i promise it is as tight as it is gunna go! But i am also gunna try some different goo. I suspect that it might be hitting the engine mount?? is this possible on an EVO 1??

i dont think so...... evo motors dont have the bracket for the L shape mount like the VR4 ones.

which gasket did you use? maybe try a thicker one like an SCE copper one.......

actually, MADEVO, could you do me a favour and take a pic of your Engine mount including the PS pump and bracket? pleeasssee!

cheers

Hopefully you got a new multilayer exhaust manifold to head flange gasket at the same time from GTPumps. If not, get one as its highly recommended. Dunno what the go is with goo :p as you shouldnt use any as it will be prone to blow out anyway and create tolerances which can end up snapping or sheering off the flange bolts (important for most critical mounting points). Run a straight edge on the cast manifold flange to see if it requires resurfacing flat. You might find that your head flange might even be the culprit and require removal of the studs and resurfacing as well... or it could even end up being something piss easy. I hope you sort it out soon dude :) (yeah Dougmo there is an order you should do up the bolts)

Exactly.
One more thing to consider when using sealing compounds...is it sensor safe?

A very good sealer is (god forbid) Toyota black, It is fuel resistant, oil resistant, heat resistant you can fill holes with it, retread your tyres with it, put on bread just like vegemite <- dont eat it but!

It is a magic black goop. pitty mitsubishi didn't make it.
but it is very very good,

it is also about $30 for a tube, but trust me it never leaks! ( but it does come with a little key to help you squeeze out every last expensive drop out of the tube.)

toyota use it for sump gaskets, no other gasket required, O and it curers quite quick.

And it is O2 sensor safe (so toyota has told me) <- but check up on that ... I don't trust those evil toyota people.

soz GSRSOL i haven't got any batteries for my camera. Update, while i was piss farting around with the manifold for the millionth time i noticed that one of the bolts that holds the turbo to the dump was loose. Then upon more inspection i noticed that one of them was missing!!!! so i pulled the turbo off and what do u know the gasket is completely farked!! so i will get a new gasket asap and put it all back together and pray!!!
