just curious are the gt pumps evo3 b16g or 20g turbos from them are bush bearing still or ball bearing? seeing as its the weekend and i cant ring them until monday, just curious if anyone knew what type of turbo they are?

thanks in advance

they are bush.. gt pumps dont do a ball bearing 16/18/20g... afaik only ATP does.

plus GT pumps contracts out his turbo rebuilds.. none of it is actually done inhouse.

Mr Turbo in Queensland can put a ball bearing cartridge in a GT pumps turbo (photos on their website)
Yeah but why spend that sort of money on putting ball bearing into something like a td05 20g, when you could get something with newer technology aero wheels.

I have seen results of ATP 18g and 20g ball bearing turbos and they are bloody unreal,
not cheap compared to the ebay turbos but you get what you pay for.

well worth it imo, more so on a road car

Thanks DOUGMO, exactly my design philosophy street car with a proven package and the best ball bearing technology.
milkandoj how much new technology does it require to push compressed air down a 2 1/2 inch pipe and how much advantage would that give over my package???? or are you guessing

What are aero wheels milkandoj? Do you have a link explaining what they are etc?
Dedant, that's a pretty crude way of thinking, I'm sure there will be further improvements made to the turbocharger, but I see what you mean, it could be overkill on a street car.
And regarding your original question, yeah they are bush as has been mentioned.

It depends how efficiently you want to do it. And where you want your power band. Less heat at more air flow equals power.
I spend hours every night reading trying to figure out what i want for my next turbo. Ive been thinking for ages, but i think i may have decided lol. Anyway......

If you want a faster spooling version of a 20g with street punch you could look at an FP 68HTA. And its bolt up and looks stock officer ;) not that that matters much. The HTA wheel has much longer blades at the inducer, the idea is the longer it hangs onto the air it can run more efficiently at higher pressure ratios.

With the awesome exchange rat atm they are cheap as chips from the US. Some other vendors for FP will ship them with a cheaper company so it doesn't cost 250 odd bucks to post it. Some would do close to 150. They have been on "special" through FP for ages now for 850.

One idea, their are many, but a good solid bolt up option from a solid company, that from the various logs Ive seen flows around 30hp more than a E3 big 16g in the real world at sane boost levels. Simple but good alternative to a td05 20g. With faster spool and very close/same in flow numbers in the real world results, not max effort drag cars.

What i mean is better aerodynamics on newer technology compressor wheels. But you have to pay to play.

"You have to pay to play" is exactly the reason I went the way I did.In my experience there is ALOT of difference between, yeah mate this turbo will spool earlier and produce more power because of xyz design advances, to once its bolted on becomes it should be making more power we are going to have to change injectors etc or retune or just throw more $$$$$$ at it we'll get the power I originally quoted eventually

Things like needing larger injectors is due to flowing enough air to need larger injectors to keep up. Thats a positive thing! Id be stoked.
Punching some numbers into a injector calculator that are on the web is a good place to see how far you current injectors will take you.

What turbo have you settled on mate?

Hows you build going anyway it certainly looks like its goin to be a killer car when its done from pics i saw ages ago.

I went for a billet turbochargers ball bearing centre cartridge on a GT pumps 20g compressor wheel td06sl2 turbine wheel in TD05 housings, it fitted the bill when I had it built.
The build is the same frustrating game of trying to get someone to finish the body work without going postal.
Mate I understand research and I did a shitload as well, I guess that's why I get so antsy everything on my car is so personal, to me it comes down to how much are you prepared to risk on research and advice. I trust racetorque and they recommended numerous times to get a manfold made and mount an evo 9 turbo on it because they come up so often and are cheap they reckon they go unreal.

So back on topic you can get a GT pumps turbo with ball bearing centre from billet turbos (photos on their website is my turbo) but is pricey.
or maybe an FP3052 or FP 3065 or any other of the infinite choices ATP may be the go for you

contary to Mr Knowitall opinions of what GTPumps business does

GTPumps does 95% inhouse multi axis cnc and balancing flow benching ect. Mark has been making turbo's and cncing his own wheels for age's so dont believe everything you read from forums
probably a few things like bearings and castings is what he doesn't do.
He's always keen to help any serious person out with custom turbo builds GTPumps workmanship stands on its own 2 feet
