see how its bolted onto the exhaust manifold (the pipe comming off the exhaust manifold) anyway, when the wastegate is closed, it means all the exhaust gas is going to the turbo therefor building boost
when the valve is open, it will send that gas past the turbo into the exhaust or into the atmosphere...
thats the basic..
internally, there is a spring / diaphram / valve (plus other minor stuff) but there are 2 hose connections.. one on top of the diaphram, one on the bottom.. to open, when boost builts to say 10psi and the spring is set at 10psi, then once the pressure is achieved, it will overcome the strength of the spring and open the valve..
