GTA to Manual Conversion

So my bro in laws girlfriends Gta has **** the auto she has been told it could be anywhere up to 8K to have it repaired. She is thinking of converting it to manual so I said i'd ask on here if anyone has

a. done this?
b. knows anything about these autos?
c. has any interest in looking at it for her if you know what your doing?

She is on the sunny coast but the car may or may not be here on the gold coast.

I read an article on a forum somewhere an it seems easy enough but everything seems easy enough on paper

at the moment , Im seeing a GTA getting made into a race car with a manual conversion , but they havnt got there yet , bascially body and roll cage is done, I think it would be possible but

you need
flywheel
gearbox
transfercase
tailshaft
rear diff
maybe front and rear drive shafts
clutch pedal
clutch master

usually in those GTA's the plazman gear dies which is the 5th gear , Im pretty sure it can be replaced as it shares the same parts as the AWD magna and 380 transmissions

might be cheaper to hunt down a gearbox otherwise

ECU and loom are different as well... These auto trans arent THAT expensive to repair... of the ones I have been involved in ?? Maybe Adelaide is cheap to fix stuff LOL. Get another couple of quotes. IMHO, dont do a manual conversion unless you are technically and mechanically very good. It is not for the faint hearted !!

Cheers guys. I have no intention of touching it don't have time to work on my own car let alone someone else's.
I would of thought getting another auto from a wreck would be the way to go. Bolt out bolt in job done.

Go another auto will be easier i have a complete 6 speed conversion except the pedal assm. Should of asked me yesterday lol

He rung just after we left I mentioned you had most of it there tho

+1 fix the auto. Thick wave spring & weld 3 pins that hold the planetry gears in tact.
Valve body job & convertor stall up job only if she's a lead foot.

Your a bit of a guru on these things yea? I know its an open ended question but what are the most common things to go in the autos? I don't actually know but I doubt its been driven really hard well not by the current owner anyways.

What I posted before is the weakest points (with std line presure & std tcu bleed controlling)
When you run high line presure & bypass some tcu control, you then find the next weakest link.
You reinforce that weak link & run more psi until you find the next weakest link to fix.
Eventualy you can't break anything, but everytime something does, guess who is responcable ?
Sorry I don't know all the GTA or VR4 Legnum auto weak points yet.
Plenty of manual Dog boxes break. So if you break one, get up the ****'n gearbox builder

I did some checking on this thread , and Techsport sell the conversion kits for $3500 to $4000 , you can also chose the 5 or 6 speed manual

the supply everything needed inc pedal boxes etc

I thought I would let you know that there is another option, its still alot cheaper than the reco on the auto, Im also going to talk to another place that rebuilds the factory mits boxes aus wide to see what they would charge

Cheers for that Trav he has decided to go man conversion an we have most of the bits sorted, also doin a fair bit of work to the motor should be a weapon when its done

Apparently its in pretty bad condition if your still keen let me know its probably only goin to the tip anyway

If it can get to E-GO transport to send to Sydney, I'll pick it up at Hunter transport in Sydney who drives for them.
I'll send you some $$ if you can arange it ? & I'll pay for the dell.

The e go depot is not far from us it wont be for a couple of weeks but when it comes out ill let you know
