Hi everyone,

Ive been thinking for the last couple of weeks about cutting a small section of the afm out,

Car is a CC GSR with the evo 2 com, inj, afm, turb an throttlebody, boost is around 12-15 as its a mechanical tap and is shite,

Basically im just wanting to confirm that this combo runs rich not just at idle but under full boost, if so ill attempt it
i know i shoud just put an a/f gauge in but im cheap  an also dont want to chip it cos funds are needed else where,

also any tips/pointers would be appreciated, cheers!

chipping it (or getting an evo ecu) will be far cheaper than rebuilding it after you blow it up.

a/f gauges that read from the original narrow band O sensor aren't worth their weight in paperclips.

why would cutting the afm do anything? perhaps we could be more helpful if you explain which part of the afm your intending to cut and what you hope to achieve in doing so.

maybe try to borrow a wideband, if you were here it would only take a few minutes to shove one up the exhaust for a "quick" test.

I think he's looking at cutting open the honeycomb.... big mistake.
As was said above, if your that cheap, I wouldn't even think about doing it. The problems you'll have from doing so don't justify it,not to mention the chance of needing a rebuild (more $$$).

thanks vr4squid, def wont buy 1 now an its got an evo2 ecu but ive been lead to beleive that it still runs rich??
an top idea brian, ill do that monday to dtermine how rich it is,

an the idea was/is that a small section of the honey comb could be removed (as the honey comb allows it to read a accurate rate of airflowing in but also restricts it minorly) so in theory take a small section out an it reads less than what is actually flwowing through...meaning it would lean it out....which would fix the amount of soot i leave on driveways

an it dont make that much more noise, using a pod instead of the airbox makes more increase in noise...

oh yea an ive heard chips are more hassle than ther worth, an the engine is only there till the stroker is complete

If you get it chipped Jamie that should sort out your richness issues.
But yeh, if you dont want to spend the approx $300 fair enough.
Maybe just stick it out till you put the new engine in.

yea maybe ya right, im not spendin any money on the 93 but im quite impressd with how the evo parts respond in there, think ill get a read out on monday an determine what ill do from there,

yea used the gsr 1 on a screamer pipe set-up, also have the evo 2 one as well, worth changing or were they the same??
