Hey guys,

So I'm finally sick of my stupid alloy crank pulley. That and it makes some godawful noises that I really don't want to hear. Has anyone done any investigation into harmonic balancers? Anyone have any threads over at dsmtuners or similar bookmarked they could link me to?

Basically I'm looking at stock vs fluidampr vs ATI

Stock one we all know
Fluidampr and ATI here: link

The price is meh. I'm looking for something that will hopefully work happily to about 8500 rpm which is where I plan to tune my car upto and set the redline at.

Thanks in advance,
Lorrie

posts i read on other forums leaned toward fluidampr......however one thing did come up while i was looking into it . there have been instances of the fluidampr not having the timing mark in the right spot.....this would need checking before fitting

Well a bad point of the ATI gear is that you have to machine off a chunk of your lower timing belt cover to get it to fit properly as it's larger etc etc. So that's definately a pain in the ass. Also I'm not sure how accurate their timing gear (the literal gear) would be in relation to OEM production lines. Although the dampener itself looks like a better design and the tech writeups on their website are very respectable.

damn that lets them out because i am building two motors.....need at least one kidney. now if however they just want a kid i have nay problem with gettin rid of a few o them

well each kid only needs 1x kidney so you could buy a collection!!
A few falcon guys I know run Ross balancers on their turbo SOHC 4ltr motors with great success
I don't think they are all that expensive

What are you doing using a solid crank pulley!
The whole purpose of the crank pulley having the dampening rubber in it is to dampen out vibrations through the crankshaft.
A solid alloy pulley will only increase these vibrations and bearing wear.
I dont see a problem with using the OEM pulley and include it in with all the parts when your rotating assembly gets balanced during an engine build. Whatever you use it has to have a dampening feature. Fluidampr are apparently the ducks guts if you have some $$ burning a hole in your pocket.

they are made in Australia.....nsw

Australia : (02) 9676 - 1466

however.....the price i just saw on hi octane racing was cheaper for the same part
