We'll I went to get a oil leak fixed, and it looks like its leaking oil from the Head Gasket itself on the drivers side, near the oil feed turbo line.

Now the car runs fine, there's no mixing of oil/coolant, and no overheating. Just an oil leak really, sigh... :S

---

So roughly how much would I be looking at to fix/replace the head gasket and what is exactly included typically? I'm estimating like $1.5k?

If I were to repair it, I might as well put in the new revised Hydraulic Lifters right, as well as Valve Steam seals? What would this roughly cost all up (knowing that meek have the HL set for $200 and $60.50) on top of the normal gasket/head, that would mean I'd need a new rocker cover seal too right... argh?

---

Also, since I'm halfway there, what are forged 4G93 pistons/rings/rods going for these days? I doubt I'll change them, but meh, if I'm already halfway there... depending on price. Or maybe I'll just chuck in new piston rings for the sake of it to freshen it up a bit?

I also thought about chucking a 4G63 in, but I probably would just prefer to stick with the 93, and I cbf changing the bonnet to fix it (with the evo engine mount right?).

Argh, what to do?
:)?

If you can do it yourself, a Steel MLS headgasket is max $250, do the lifters and the stem seals if they are old. Also consider timing belt replacement if it is passed half way. If you can't do it yourself, bank on labour approx $500.

I couldn't do it myself, I'd probably fark something without help.
Engine is at ~207000. Timing belt was done last year. The lifters just make the standard tapping noise, thought maybe I'd fix it up with the new revised ones, the stem seals no idea, I assume I might as well replace them.

Would the head need to be machined? What's that cost?

Cheers
:)

i just got my 93 head done full service with seals supplied cost $335

seals should be about $45

that was perssure tested decked etc head looks like new which reminds me i gota get photos for my build thread

got mine done at gilberts engineering(goold coast)

It could be leaking due to a warped section of the head or it could just be leaking from a old/damaged gasket. I always advice to atleast get them checked and then go from there, especially if your running a MLS gasket.

Alright cool, I'll work it out with my mechanic, he'll send off the head :) (afaik its just the standard hg)
Cheers.

MLS gasket is a waste of money on a 93 with stock internals.

A plain ordinary head gasket off the shelf at Super Cheap will cope with more than stock 93 internals (read, rods) will.

Had a similar oil leak on my rvr in same location. checked head bolt tensions. The head bold nearest where the turbo oil feed bolts onto the head moved about an 1/8 of a turn when tension was rechecked. That was about 6 months ago and havent had a problem since and job took 30 minutes start to finish. Just a thought. :)

Alright, cool I'll take a look or get someone to check that.
Since the head is probably coming off, I'm going to change the lifters to the new type as well.

Anyone know any good powder coating places in Melb to coat the rocker cover?
Is the rocker cover alloy or magnesium btw?

Otherwise I may just buy a can of wrinkle paint (Krylon or VHT) and try diy.
