What's the highest watt bulb that's safe to use? Decided to change bulbs because the 55w ones were getting pretty dull. My auto elecy assured me 100w H4s and 100w H3s (foglamps) would be alright because the car has glass lenses. Not so, the 40amp block fuse went on my last night @ 80km/h half way through a corner. Broke the top off the fuse and bent the tabs on to each other for the ride home, but I'd rather it not happen again. So what's everyone use?

Seriously, what's with all the forward lighting going through one fuse? Put the blood pressure right up.

H4 60/55, then you look at upgrading wiring and fuses and the like, if you get some xenon blue ones (like the calibre brand at supercheap auto) you will get a good light throw that is still legal and is alot brighter than halogen globes

You can run 90/130 (I suggest fused relays but), i did/do :) Not the easiest to find these days :(
I got a set of those blue xenon ones (ment to be equivlent of 150w) chucked em out after 1hr, and put 90/130 back, much more/better light.

on high, i have 130/100/130/130/100/130 accross the front of the VR4 :D (2x9" rally4000 spotties in the middle)

Dont run 100/130 unless you fit a relay, before i had a chance to fit a relay i told my wife not to use high beam and avoid driveing at night but she knew better and melted the plugs to globes, fuses to the fuse block, high beam relay to high bean and the plug under the dash.

Yup low, i have 720wats (60amps)think i need 55w HIDS :|) of light on the front of the VR4, can see for many km's at night, but even with 4 relays running it all, 20A fuses even dont look the bast after 8hrs use :(

For the while I had the 100w I noticed a huge difference, and the 130w on high was awesome. I'd really love to be running that. Did you upgrade the wiring also, or just fused relays? Do you notice a loss in power too? Soon as I put the lights on the idle lowered.

GVR40, I actually had a look at those 60/55 Phillips ones at Autobarn which said the same deal. But wasn't real sure on them, and they were't exactly the cheapest either. Really want something that's going to be worthwhile.

low, same deal with me man. Stuck on high beam for the moment. Probably should have researched this first. :p

lol dude no offence they are shit. I put them in my ecsort, with the cheap and many of the ebay globes the bluer (+Kelvin)you go as a rule the less light (lumins) you throw out, they were worse then the normal style ones i had in there.

A good example of this is a street light, compare yellowish old style ones they throw out a longer beam, that the more white ones.

I went narva in the vr4 from repco, I went the blue power ones, they were the best mix of blue and bright i could find. they are 3750K and 2000 lumins, the next up in blue are the 4000K and they drop to 1600 lumins.

After 4000k in the narva and panasonic range, they say not legal for rd use, also claibre ones are smack on 4000k. So i "assumed" 4000k is the cut off.
If it doeant say on the box like some of th panasonic does, look at globe might say not legal, or the legal ones have another box symbol (other than H1, H4 ect) with E1 in it (europe standard 1) and they bullshit ones have E13. (like some blue ebay globes) its some made up rubbish apparently. Not that it matters as long as it aint blue anough for the rozzers to pick you.

I had from what i can gather low end panasonic ones in the vr4 and the new narva blue power ones are way better, are more white than blue so go the 4000K if you want the blue tinge, and more blue if your after more, but you have less light even if its meant to be "more like day light"

I just want my car to be legal and not catch the cops eye as ii lik to not be botheres unlike some genuin nissan lovers cop, all the stupid ricers do it for us.

And watch ou som of the auto pro's are selling 20buck ebay globes for 35.

Otherwise check out panasonic, they are also meant to be the shiz. I think narva might be a bit of a copy (or other way around as both their ranges emm very matched) but still pricey.
And HID rocks but gotta be careful as ive heard for cheap units overheating, and another things for the police to pin you for. Plus proper HID factory lenses are focussed differnt to normal lenses.
You do get what you pay for

calibre (super cheap) are in the low 20's (23?)
Auto 1 had some cheap aisian ebay specails for 35
Narva at repco were 55-75
mals had some of low end narva for high 40's

Panasonic i think are aroun narva prices or more i couldnt find somewhere that stocked them in half a day and wanted them quick.

I just paid repco's exy price as i was hung over and couldnt be bothered shopping around and paying for fuel anyway over 5 bucks. And im stoked with my narve blue power H4's
Mine were 62, but you get what you pay for
