Heater....... won't get hot.

So I noticed the other morning when it was 8 degree out.
That my heater does not work.

I have noticed that during the time of raining and my needing to use the heater for demisting, that my drivers side floor was wet.

So in piecing 1 and 1 together, I take it my heater core is fudged.


I removed the front drivers side carpet today, light bit of surface rust etc, just to ensure that it is infact the heater core that is leaking, which I'll do on the drive home.

But I'm wondering is there any other reason that my heater would not be functioning apart from a clodged/ dead heater core?

My heater didnt work till last week when i a flushed it.

pulled the heater hoses off from in the engine bay and jammed a hose in on high pressure. need to turn the ignition on and have the heater temp set high.

took about 20 minutes to finally get clear water out of the heater core.

okay, I don't think the leak and my heater core are connected.

I still believe the heater is cactus, got a tiny amount of heat into the car from having the heat on full.
But that could also be the exposed metal floor from no carpet.....

before i flushed the core, even on 32deg and low fan speed it was barely luke warm. now its super hot.

yeah.

I'll try and do a flush this weekend, if that doesn't resolve, will just replace the core as that will solve the issue otherwise.

The leak however, I'm hoping is a door rubber.
Lucky I kept the receipt for the front windscreen with warranty.

make sure you have the heater turned on when you go to flush though, otherwise the heater valve will be closed, and you get a face full of water.

mine was so clogged it looked like mud when i started reverse flushing it.

its either the core or the valve is stuck.

does your cooling system in general look well looked after? i.e. no visible signs of rust coloured deposts? like in/on the radiator overflow bottle?

head hasnt gone for me (touch wood) rad blew though. a good flush should do it.

I'm due for my 100,000km service soon.... and well the car is getting a good service..

I suffer the same problem at the moment.

i used some moly lube stuff from super cheap.

Did't you buy the nulon stuff? Or are you thinking of liqui moly brand? Don't think they do a radiator flush

man this site is amazing! its like a library of all the shit I'm finding out is wrong with my car! haha

I am also getting no heat from the heater, thermostat seems fine and AC fan works a treat.
I'm wondering if anyone has a picture or diagram of the two hoses I should be disconnecting to flush my heater core?

Im a bit of a noob mechanic and don't want to start pumping water down the wrong hose.

Hey hey with all the talk of heaters and stuff does anyone have a spare heater core the connections are stuffed on mine (engine slipped on installation :fuuuuu: )

what flushing fluid would you guys suggest for a cooling system flush?

I'm due for my 100,000km service soon.... and well the car is getting a good service..

I suffer the same problem at the moment.

Water, pure old tap water, disconnect the top hose to the radiator, plug the outlet from the top tank of the radiator with a rag and have running water through a hose ready to keep your radiator topped up. Run the motor with the heater on full blast until the thermostat opens and keep going until your system flows clean water out your hose.

We never use any flushing fluid at the shop, really it's a waste of money unless you have blown a gasket causing oil in your water or have some serious gunk built up.

Oh, and don't forget to top up with coolant!

Ha, yeah, really it's aiming at what box_me2 is asking about with the heater core, considering that it's part of the cooling system and all... It seems to help people by explaining the correct procedure seeing as this info is on here for reference in the future as well as present, which yes was quoted from a post created in 2010, good spotting JAMO clap clap
