HELP identify gearbox for me

ok i got a box of someone on the forum and i don't know if it is the box it was claimed to be can someone tell me what it is out of

it could be a vr4 box,the following codes are all vr4 boxs and they are similar to the code you listed,you may have mistaken the 0 for a U

i havnt seen your code before though.i wonder if the FE4909 is the ratio? any chance of putting a pic up?

box is in the boot of my car which is also full of cardboard boxes, so i can't get to it at the moment

just had a look it seems to be a switchable box with a lsd? entaran you know all about the switchable boxes

and the number on it is C50PH

its the same box i had originaly on my vr4 so youve definately got a vr4 box.i dont think it will have an lsd though.

yes, i know it is a vr4 box, but i want to know what it is off, the aspecs and jspecs have different spline counts and i can't remember which has 22 and which has 23 splines, also i need to know the ratios on it because i have an aspec which has the 3.545 not the 3.909 ratio

its 3.545 and i wasnt aware there are different spline counts between jspec and aspec boxes so cant help you there.

thanks for your help so far, does anyone know if W5M33 boxes have 23 or 22 splines where it goes to transfer case, or do i have to pull my old one off

also can a switchable box be used with a constant trans case

a 3.909 w5m33 (evo0) will have 23splines, a 3.545 w5m33 will have 22 like a km255.

you can run in 'normal' 4wd mode with a switchable box and non-switchable t-case, but not fwd. You can also run 4wd with the centre locked, but whether the system would stand up to a hard launch like this, i'm unsure.
