Help..Offset..confused

This will be a great help if some one can sort this out for me..whether it be from trial and error or fact

ive looked at the tyre fitment page on this site and ive looked at all the calculators for offset.

But im more comfused,
All i want to know is what offset do i need so i dont protrude outside the front guards for firstly.

An 8 inch rim..and can they be even fitted to the car.?(without being outside the guard)
And a 7 inch rim.

If u could help id be appreciative

I'd be looking at a 7.5" rim with a +38 offset.
