hey guyz just a quick ques as this prob is really starting to piss me off....

i changed my intercooler injectors MAF and ECU... the ECU is stock but chipped for 510's etc

anywayz when i first got the car going it started first kick no worries... everything seemed fine....it was running rich which didnt really bother me that much as it wasnt overly rich and seemed to boost fine etc

anywayz long story short... i was running 17psi... and for some reason it was taking ages to get up to the 17psi... this isnt a big turbo and it would get up and going at about 5k revs.... which was weird considering it would boost up2 10psi instantly... then from 10-17 it was sluggish....

that didnt concern me as much as one day driving along... i was on boost foot to the floor when it started backfireing and fucking up realy bad...

now whenever i drive it i put my foot down it gets to about 10psi and then it starts backfiring coughing sounds shit... the boost gauge is bouncing around at the -7-10psi marking... up and down... it sounds and runs terrible...

does any1 have any idea why it would change like that.... people said spark plugs... i changed them same thing.... its not boost leak... as boost leak wouldnt make me mis and backfire violently

cheers guyz help would be great

BTW the car idles and drives perfect aswell....

i have a simualur thing a while ago. mine was the rubber intake pipe sucking itself in and casuing it to fueling up. would start winding up hard then all of a sudden it would bog down and start cracking and poping out the back, big fuel smoke too.
not saying this is your problem but i think it might be something like it.
i did a dodgy fix of craming some pvc bends in there for a bit till i got a metal pipe made.

could be that but wouldnt the MAF take over and adapt for the lack of air.... i do have a rubber hose to the turbo and it is a 90 bend so there is every chance of that

cheers

you woult think as the air flow goes down so would the fuel, i dont know. i just know that i squezed my intake hoses and they were getting a little soft. so cramed in the pvc bends, all problems sorted!!

Its obviously getting fuel.

So its one of two things. Fuel or air...(compression shouldn't matter).

Check your coil and spark plugs.

And make sure its not a boost leak.

Do yo have a BOV??

Good chance your BOV doesn't liek mor ethen 10psi. Could be why it took ages to get to 17.

its not spark plugs... i just changed em....

it could be air/fuel ratio..... but why would it work for weeks then just die like this???

any1 have SAFC i could borrow to check it out?

cheers

what chip have you got on the car?
who programmed the chip?
what plugs did you put in the car?
what leads are you running?

To me its an electrical problem cos by one of the above.

the ecu was apparently chipped by blitz as it has blitz work garuntee stickers on it....

leads are eagle
spark are ngk 6's
as far as i know the chip is running for 510's and evo maf.... which is what i am running

cheers

Is it a VR4 or EVO computer (case number)? cos AFAIK blitz didnt make a VR4 chip.. maybe im wrong.. but im running a blitz modified eeprom in my car.

i dont have the number but it was the same as my jspec ecu.....

get the case number because EVO and VR4 look very identical.. im confirming with someone whether blitz made a VR4 chip or not..

cheers dude ill get back to u have to take it out

Blitz did make a chip for a VR4.. its been confirmed... However what they paramentres that were changed are unknown.. But most chips i have come accross have been tuned for factory injectors and AFM.. so unless you can pin point any other problems its probably the fact that the ECU is of unknown origin.. Maybe try emailing blitz and asking what paremetres have been changed.

OR if you have an eeprom reader connect your eeprom to that and you will be able to upload the bin file and work out what has been modified in it.

Id have to go with computer on that one too.
The fact the car runs fine up till 10 pound is weird, and then after 10 psi it dont wanna go.

Your symptons are as though its pulling heaps of timing (slow to make boost), then actually cutting the ignition or injection (backfiring)

mark_cullan or something (he is a t4ger) has this exact problem and i dont know if he has fixed it yet either but he has a motec system so i dont know

Mark ran a 12.6 @ 108mph the other week.. so its safe to say that his problem has been fixed.. he would of just had a tuning issue which is fine with a motec.. an eeprom isnt as easy to fix.

did you buy the blitz ecu from a guy in perth if so
its my old one and is out of a vr4 evo
i.e 510's
small 16g
i never had the boost control solenoid connected
bleed valve with 15 psi it still seemed rich
but car ran fine
