Hey everyone

My GF and I bought an Evo 8 GSR (import) 6sp a little while ago after I talked her into selling her little mazda 323.

We love our Evo to bits. Whats not to love.

Few little mods so far
full 3 inch stainless from turbo back - RArt Box
hotside
evc electronic dual stage boosty - 19psi & 22psi
lots other little minor stuff like upgrading all the Diff bushes, sparkplug leads etc.

We are in Nsw, Aus couple hours south of Sydney.
We have a big snow trip coming up next month and is costing me a small fortune, but after that I have full permission to blow whats left of this years wage and all of next years on our beloved toy.
I have a pretty clear view on what I want the Evo for and what I want for it, just no idea where to source it all.

If your someone who has done a fair bit to their Evo then you are the guys I wanna hear from, please keep an eye out for my posts and contribute if you can .

Thanks guys

P.s - Thank you to the person who came onto the dead forum I was on and re-directed me here.

Not with a six speed but Jack.....they are weak as piss. If you want to make good numbers first mod is to piss the six speed off.
Definitely e85 or eflex whichever is available to you but if you are on the south coast of NSW, good luck finding either of those fuels!

what is e85....??? j/k
Yea no such thing has e85 down my way. Guys Im keen for big hp but I gotta sort out this driveline. If I have to do an rs conversion I will... Show me the way :)

Okie so lets start with, what is needed to do the conversion?

I notice a tag at the bottom of ur post that says u can supply parts. Is this something you could line me up with? Do I look for a second hand rs diff and gearbox or do I go straight for a tougher RS diff built buy cusco or something along those lines (if I'm able to do this I would. Profer to only have to do things once ).

Info mannnn...More info.. Your in the gong which is a nice little run down the pass for me. would work out well if your able to order that sort of gear.

Cheers

For those sorts of answers you might be better to join a forum that actually has members that have done this conversion and on there you are more likely to be able to find second hand bits too...try evolutionoz.net ...I know plenty of members on there that have done it and I'm sure there will be heaps of threads/posts referring to this....not many later model guys on here mainly early model stuff.

I drove my Evo 8 GSR 6 Speed pretty hard, and can assure you the gearbox isn't some piece of glass that a lot of other people pass on via Chinese whispers, without any actual knowledge of owning and driving the car.

Unless you're looking to turn it in to a dedicated track car, there really isn't any need to change from the 6-speed to the 5

Even then I know Evo 8/9 GSR 6 speed owners who can run 1:1x lap times at Mallala (S.A.) with the standard 6 speed box.

Believe me, if you're looking for "weak points" to upgrade, the 6 speed isn't the first place you should be looking.

Quote from Jacks transmission:

"It's hard to believe that oil from the factory is best, but it is and the reason why is due to the poor engineering of the EVO 6-speed trans found in the 9 MR. The trans broke synchros and gears at factory HP levels. Mits had this fluid developed to allow that horrid trans to survive. Due to this, it is the best trans fluid on the market today!"

I'm looking to buy one now, and it's not until you start taking notice of the price differences of the 5 & 6 spds, it's past being a few whispers, I think the words out that the 6's are fragile. Wouldn't say 'glass', but would say 'well below the capability of the 5 spd'.

Exactly my point George. Once you turn the wick up they dont last long. Which is exactly what the op is looking to do which is why I raised this point to begin with.
