Hi Guys,

I have a set of HID's (dont know which came with the car), and have a problem...

I turn the lights on, both globes light up fine and work ok..... for about 45 seconds until the right globe turns itself off.

Switch the lights on and off and both globes work fine again..... for another 45 seconds until the same thing happens again.

Anyone ever had a similar issue? Is the globe overheating? Wiring connection?

I cant understand why they both work ok for about minute, then the right ones shuts off, flick the lights on an off again and they both work fine for another minute.... Its bloody frustrating driving at night :fuuuuu:

does the light get brighter and brighter during that 45sec's? your ballast could be on there way out.. or the gap between the electrodes are getting too far apart.........

chuck a tester on the input for the ballast and see if it could be something else rather then the HID set up.....

I see...... what exactly does that mean in the Kings english?

swap globes left to right and see if the if it does it on the other side

if it does its your globe, mine used to do that.

otherwise maybe ballast as jay said.

what he said lol.....

I tried to take out the globes yesterday to do the swap..... but upon closer inspection I need to take the whole front bar off to do this. I'll just have to live with it till I get it serviced.... Fwock!

The globe in question does look whiter than the other when they both heat up, and also emits a slight buzzing noise.....

are these aftermarket or factory kits?

what car are you installing them into?

do you have a relay? ie without a relay you might get flickering or not enough power. as depending on your kit they may or maynot draw alot of juice.

does the wiring require a capacitor? ie. does your car have a constant output or is it intermittent? check your cars harness if the positive negative is constant or intermittent...bmws,mercedes newer cars are like this

looking whiter than the other when they heat up can mean several things. one bulb is different color rating than the other or one ballast is getting up to operation faster.

buzzing sound you hear is normal when they fire or when they operate.

sounds like your bulb may be gone..... that buzzing noise is usually when it tries to arc to start up...

Now that you mention it there is an intermittent arcing noise after bulb goes off, but it sounds like its coming from the other side of the engine bay where the battery is....
I checked the connections on the bat and they seem ok. Unless the wiring to the headlights is forked.....

Im guessing that the wiring loom is buggered and so is the globe..... anyone recommend good HID light globes and where to get em cheap?

buzzing like a bee/fly is normal.

if you hear louder sounds like zapping, loud intermittent electrical arcs.... check if your connections to the bulbs/globes are touching or if they are worn.

the best advice I can give you when you go HID route is to not skimp the first time and do it right the first time around. Invest in some good quality OEM products and you wont have any problems in the future. all aftermarket kits out there are very questionable in regards to output & relability from the time you recieve them to the distant future. I've been in the scene for awhile and have gone through tons of aftermarket kits and OEM kits to know whats good and whats bad.

heres a supplier I use here in Canada based out of USA. I know they ship out to the uk and his customer service is par none, so give him a shout!.... his name is Matt and tell him Ben sent ya. You won't be dissapointed.

Kits that I would recommend are to go with Mitsubishi ballasts or Matsuhitas and go with any OEM philips bulbs like the 85122+ bulbs.. tell Matt what your looking for and he will sort you out.
