4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

You should have a 12v supply to the coil pack from your loom. 3 wire plug from memory.. Just unplug the connector, use a multimetre or test light to find the 12v supply wire. Measure while engine is off, compare to actual batt voltage. You could so the same while running, just figure our a way to probe the wire/pin when connected. If you have a significant difference, look for cause of voltage drop or just rewire with a relay (same as fuel pump rewire).

What about testing the coil pack itself, do they "wear out" or are they either working or not? If they wear out how can we test how well they are working

hello,

blackvr - got the coilpack, thanks.

New bpr7es plugs gapped at 0.85mm and a new coilpack helped, it is just a small miss now. Going to recheck for boost leaks tomorrow night since I just sitted a meek cooler kit, ebay throttle body ( omfg dont buy one ) and a new pumpback bov.

Tried 19psi and 15psi on the 20G and it is the same either way.

Glen

just reread this thread and I will check coilpack voltage and gap at .7mm also .... should have reread this thread last night - missed a track day due to the miss :(

0.65mm gap solved the issue. I am going to test the voltage to the coil as I should be able to run 15psi with more than 0.65mm gap with 10mm leads, bpr7es and a new coilpack.

Especially when I can run 0.8mm gaps, 22 psi ( on E85 ) with the same coil pack, stock leads etc. Please test the coil voltage asap ! Mike

12V batt voltage and only 11.75 at the coilpack plug ( I had the key to on with headlights on )

I'll do a relay tomorrow and then test.

Glen

is the miss like a stutter ? wound the boost up in mine today and its missing in 3rd at about 4500rpm. running only 15psi

Dropped them to 0.7 and the problems gone. They were set at 1.0 which is my own dumb fault for not checking them Out of the box.

that sounds really odd glen. Are you datalogging? What leads are you running and they are new, yes? Checked for oil in the spark plug holes?

on both my car and fulltilt's old car ran .8 gap no issues. Mine still has an older coil pack running 18psi on a 14b with standard jspec cooler and piping size, fulltilt's had miss solved with going from pre-gapped iritium (1.1) to .8 generic and a new coilpack - running about 1.5bar (~22psi) on a 20g with an e3 cooler and 2" custom pipes.
