The engine builder didn't seem to do it up tight enough and it's been weeping for about 4 weeks, but I only noticed it a few days ago...

How can I tighten it? none of my tools fit...

Should I just go back to him and get him to fix it?

Yeah, go back to him and get him to fix it if he isnt far away. It was his job let him fix it. Maybe he used an old washer.

The last thing you want to do is try to tighten it and then snap it. It's a 22mm isn't it? 1/2" 22mm socket with short extension and ratchet.

iirc, with the turbo bolted to the manifold I don't think there's room to get a socket and a ratchet in there, let alone any kind of extension, it can be done with a ring spanner if there's enough room to swing it without hitting the radiator or fan (I had my rad out at the time).

Banjo bolts stretch much more readily the normal bolts (especially where the hole is acorss them), after being tightened a few times (or just once very tightly) they can stretch enough to bottom out in the hole and when you try and tighten them abit more they break (guess how I know this :p )

Best thing to do is get a new bolt and new copper washers, if the bolt isn't visibly stretched (ie: the hole is still round) it'll probably be alright with just new washers.

you can do it, but you might have to make your tools,
i had to do the maroon vr4's...
i used a very stubby spanner with 4 hands... seriously...

glad it worked otherwise the turbo had to come off to do it
