EVO-00X said:Here is the NSW RTA law on window tinting which should be the same for Victoria: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi03_rev3.pdf .
It states any new window tinting after 1 August 1994 must be minimum 35% for ALL windows unless darker tint is already fitted!! . There is a diagram showing front, side and back must be at least 35%.
I've heard of people who have pre August 1994 model cars with very low km and under 35% tint who claim that the tinting is still the same tint on the car after all this time  Technically you dont have to remove it - just that all "NEW" tinting must be 35% or more
Actually, here is VICROADS standards information sheet here on Window Tinting: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/VSI 2.pdf . It doesnt actually state what year the tinting rule came into force but it does state that its still gotta be at least 35% tint (VicRoads info isnt really in depth as the NSW RTA laws are) which is what prompted the various motoring bodies to work together and come up with new unified national standards and a National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Modifications. I work for the RTA in NSW and I can tell you that soon all of our standards across all the states of Australia will come under the one National standard. Some things we will be better off with, some things we may get screwed out of but at least the rules are uniform across all states to remove any confusion The new standards had already been put together and placed on the DOTARS website for public comment last year but the time period had expired a while back - meaning its getting written up and awaiting public release :roll:Entaran said:NSW specific law. Doesn't apply down here.
