hi there,

would anyone know if the rear lsd from a hyper sports gear r, would bolt right up to a sports gear?

the sports gear is a 95 auto if that means anything.

kind regards.

The HSGR probably won't have different fixing points for the differential.

But the RVR came in many different gear ratio's. For what I can find in ASA even the ratio's of the manual and auto rear LSD diff are different of the HSGR. 3.307(auto) vs 3.909(manual).

Therefore more information is needed to know if the ratio's will match. With a VIN number it is possible to find the exact ratio the diff in your SG is in ASA.

If you also take the auto gearbox of the HSGR you'll probably be fine.

(correct me if I'm wrong)

thanks for that, really appreciate that info.
the lsd is from a manual hsgr it has 3.909 printed on it.

what woud be the problem using an lsd with differnt ratios?
its an 1994 sports gear rvr that I want to put the lsd in.

will post the vin sometime'soon.

cheers, much appreciated.

U can use the LSD centre itself but you will need the crownwheel to match the gear ratios currently in the car

If you run different ratios, you will quickly chip teeth, twist the tailshaft, blow the yoke, and even worse blow 1, 2 or all 3 diffs (rear, front and centre)

oh, dam.
hmm.

one of your posts on another forums said automatic rvrs have a rear differential ratio of 3.307.

so I guess the rvr I want to put the lsd into has different gear ratios.

could the crown wheel be taken out of the stock open diff of my auto rvr and put into the 3.909 lsd from the hsgr?

many thanks.

Automatic RVR Hyper Sports Gear R has 3.307.
Manual RVR Hyper Sports Gear R has 3.909.

But the RVR came also with ratio's of 2.846 and 3.545.

Since we don't know what's in your RVR. It's unable to give advice like that.
Only thing I can say is, that if you're unsure don't swap. Or you'll drive your drivetrain to bits.

If your're looking for a straight swap. More information like a vin number is needed to find out what differential is in your SG.

If your're looking more complicated. You'll need to swap out the satellite carrier with VCU out of the HSGR crown wheel and bolt into the crown wheel of your SG.
[Edit] I just looked up in ASA if the carrier assy of the auto and manual HSGR is the same. Which they are not. Therefore I don't know if it would work. Or have different ratio's or anything. There are no ratio's listed for that part.

Therefore my advice is If its possible go for a straight swap. Or go for an entire HSGR drivetrain. (Gearbox, transferbox and rear diff).
If you really want to have a LSD rear diff.

have a quick check of the backing plate on your SG diff, might still have the sticker on it showing the ratio, mine did when i blew mine, made life a lot easier. I managed to find a non turbo SG that had the LSD rear, in saying that the ratio was 3.545

Hi there,

So the vin for my RVR is 7A8CJ1K0703208631

And I looked under the car and the diff still had the sticker on it.
The ratio of the rear diff on my RVR is 3.545.

So it is possible to find a rear diff with that ratio?

Also, how do I tell if the diff is an lsd or not? If i'm looking around wrecked cars and such how do I know the diff is an lsd?

Cheers. Really appreciate the help.
Hopefully since New Zealand has a lot of imports that there will be one around somewhere.

I have trouble with my RVR SporGear Manual (Not Automatic). Am talking about the Transfere Case and SG Diff; gearbox is OK. I've replaced the Diff and Transfere case but the ratio seem different although I got them from tha same car. I've discovered that mine is a CEA 3.909 Diff and I've fitted a wrong one. Now that I've got a CEA 3.909 in hand; am gonna change the Diff with same I had CEA 3.909. Would it be OK if I leave the transfer case which I got paired with the wrong one I fitted as I could not find the transfere case from same car I got the CEA 3.909. In simple question (Smiles) if the gearbox is same as the CEA 3.909 Diff; can I fit any Transfer case from another different Mannual RVR SportGear car. Thank In Advance.
