So tomorrow I will receive my new studs, so obviously I have to get the old ones out and put the new ones in...

I've only ever had older cars, so the hub and rotor are one assembly, and they simply come off by taking off the "nut that holds the wheel on".

The back looks easy enough, it looks like there will be enough space behind the hub to get the old ones out... but even if not it looks like the rear hub is pretty easy to get out.

The front looks like an absolute pain in the arse though, has anyone replaced studs, or even replaced brake rotors to tell me if I'm going to have to remove and disassemble the whole hub assembly to get them out? It looks that way from the FSM, I just hope that I'm wrong :D

Another question, is it possible to remove the front hub without taking the entire knuckle out? The FSM shows the use of a special tool to remove it while the knuckle is out of the car, is it possible to slide hammer it out without damaging it, and then use the axle nut to press it back in?

The rotor is easy, its a floating type, so once the caliper is off the rotor should pretty much slide off.

As for the studs, even with the disc off I'm pretty sure the ABS wheel speed ring is in the way. Only way to remove that is by seperating the hub.
When I did mine and my bearings I forgot to put the ring back on  I was lucky enough to have the 'special' tools at my disposal. Surely there is another way, cos if you split the hub you split the wheel bearing I'm pretty sure.

So it's pretty much a "take it somewhere" job? Bugger... could a regular suspension place do the studs or would I need to take it to a mechanic?

It can be done at home.
I'm just thinking, the speed ring is it bolted on or is it pressed on? I think it's bolted, if it is, possibly able to unbolt the speed ring and then just knock the studs out like normal.

Surely mitsubishi wouldn't have made it so the hub has to be split just to replace some bloody studs!....although they have designed some stupid shit.

You have to press the whole assembly out, put the new studs in and press the whole thing back together. Bloody mitsubishi...
