Been toying with this idea for awhile. Would it even be possible. I just want to have the climate control screen and the mileage/consumption screen. B)

I've seen pics of the japanese version for the evo 7. Dont like the fact that i have to change the entire centre controls to match that unit. But the climate control screen seems to be the same as the current model MMCS in the lancer and asx aspire's. Also, the new ones are in in english too!

I don't think its that bad of a headunit either. It is a rockford fosgate unit iirc?

Thoughts?

3-4k!! Damn, should have bidded for the one that went on ebay for a grand at the end!!!

meh, it was just a week too early before i picked the car up...

nigel, possible to post up the wiring diagram here? i'd love to start tracing the wires. It seems the japanese units have a control module that allows it to work. I.e. you can rip out the jap DVD GPS headunit and put in your HU and the rest of the functions still work except the dvd/gps of course. I wonder if this module exists for the australian MMCS. or is it integrated into the whole headunit already.

i went through all that trouble stripping the climate control loom out of a evo 1-3 dash harness and retro fitting it into the CC, i think this would be even more fun!

correction: it seems to be a kenwood headunit.. mmm

the rockford fosgate is the speakers and sub. will try and find it tommorow. a mate of mine put a unit in his L300 van. the audio worked, not sure if he got the dvd working.

actually i dont think the mmcs have the fuel consumtion and all that. i think its just the normal stereos? will have a look tommorow. never really paid to much attention to it haha

the mmcs units are made by kenwood and they have all the on board fuel consumption, servicing schedule's etc etc awesome bit of kit but not worth the money they charge for them!

im gonna try to source one and do the mod.

i know i can get my hands on the evo 7-9 japspec unit from the wreckers in malaysia abt 1 weeks time (woohoo free trip by work for training B) ) but goddamn the console and controls look horrible and in jap. Not to mention im again stuck with the dilemma of the jap radio band! FM expanders are available but they arent the best bandaid solution if u ask me.

Seems all the electronic readouts of the unit has something to do with the ETACS - ecu. Must try to scab more ct9a wiring manuals.

What are u trying to put it in to clem? Maybe scourge through a fee wreckers u may find a aid one here. Lancers, mn tritons had the option as well as the pajeros...

an evo 8 :D

interesting. thanks for the tip. i might start to broaden my search now. definitely grabbing a used one if can find it!

hows your 7 going?

Thumbs up for having a go. You are a God to me for having the patience and perserverance to graft the E3 climate control into a GSR and get it working!!

I know some people want to keep their car all Mitsi, and that's why the covet the MMCS, but as CLutZ says, you could easily buy a mini car PC that'll fit in your glovebox these days for under $500.

Couple it with Evoscan, fit it with a GPS unit, and output it to a JayCar 7" TFT monitor or similar, and have most of the features the MMCS has and more.

Plus you could buy a couple of cameras from Jaycar and have a reversing and front bumper camera outputting to the TFT screen so you don't scrape your front bar at the shopping centre!

actually, the carputer did sparked an interest in me but fark me if i can be bothered with doing the setup for a carpc. On the other hand, if i can get things to run on Win CE/win mob, i might very well go down this path and try to build a carpc using rugged pda components. I fix these gizmos's daily and have full access to a team of software programmers dedicated to building applications to run on this platform. Maybe even windows xp embed. But def nono to win xp/7. the amount of headaches i deal with this o/s at work is enough to drive me up the wall.

seems mitsi had mmcs on almost every model in every world. Its even on the grey import delica d5's abeit in japanese.

Chase, you spot on me for being all mitsi over the car  Even my work colleagues bags me out for keeping things dead stock and factory looking.

mmm... semi slicks/mmcs... semi slicks/mmcs... oh decisions decisions.

It's not cause it was cheap mate, Shit roads are killing it. I don't care cause it won't last long like her last 3 vehicles...

yeh mine isnt too mint either. But thats how i like it. ;) as long the drivetrain is strong and body is straight, i dont mind the usual wear around the recaro bolsters and some marks on the dash. Its got both evo 9 genuine front and rear bumpers like yours Chase. Came like this from japan so i'd say this car max grade 3 maybe not even. altho after watching the latest mightycarmods movie, i realised how cheap my car must have been at the auctions in japan.

Found the american mmcs wiring diagrams of an evo 8 workshop manual.

In malaysia at the moment for work. time to scout the chop shops here to see if i can find this unit for cheap. chances are its gonna be a japspec unit but if the price is right, i might get it for experimenting.

edit: whoops. just realised it wasnt chase but boostboy who mentioned me about going all mitsi on the car. soz. -_-

note: what is with the 2x edits before the post being locked out for further edit?!?! is it some forum feature that i dont know off????

That's it clem, tams was the right price for us. The main problem with ours is lack of maintenance but I'm slowly getting it sorted out... only had to replace the battery and get a cracked rim repaired because of the Shit house 20's that are on it.

I thought u were building up another coupe clem? Or u diched the whole idea?

i've always bought cars that are not perfect cosmetically. :) No point in getting a show queen at its commanding price only to have it molested.

They're next to each other at home now. Coupe's just waiting for exhaust. I want to start the thing before i bring it to an exhaust joint in case something is wrong and requires more attention. trouble is without a front pipe, i'm hesitant to start the thing fearing i might melt the air con lines and radiator and whatnot.

if only the missus drives manual. Would be 2 mad cars at home. But yeah its gonna be up for sale once its all running.
