Importing EVO 4

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

u can import an evo 4 for race/rally purpose only :p..
only evos available for import for street use are the 6 - 7

Untrue joe-ness. It'd be completely illegal in Victoria, NSW, ACT and QLD as they share import laws.

Evo's available for import under sevs are 6,6.5,7,8,8MR (8.5).

would it be possible to have it engineer'd? I mean if they can do all other sorts of work, surely they could engineer an early evo?

It's got nothing to do with engineering. It's all about federal regulations set by DOTARS. E4's don't meet the guidelines.

how come theres genuine evo 1/2/3/4/5's
getting around in Aus.. whats this yellow plate import stuff.. were these early evo's brought in before A law changed??

and its also wierd how tehse are getting around street registered and theres like.. no evo 0's.. and only a couple of e38 galants such as arthurs old monte

As with any law, there is always ways around it. I think you'll find that 99% of JDM EVO 1-5's on the street here have been done on the dodge.

Monte Carlo's are E39a's, only RS's are E38a, and you dont see many of them or the other Facelift JDM VR4's because of the 15y.o import law changing. There's no point importing a VR4 and doing it on the dodge, when you can simply buy an EVO and do that instead.

Hope this helps.......

Ok, let's clear some shit up here.

A) The 15year rule DOESN'T EXIST anymore. It was replaced as of Feb 28th 2006 with the "Pre dec-31 1988" rule. Or whatever it's technical name is. Basically if the car was built pre dec-31 1988 then you can import it under the "grey import" laws being import, compliance and register.

B) Joe-ness, your car is illegal. I suggest you edit/remove your post because if vicroads gets wind of it they'll saw you car in half through the b-pillar. Happened to other people. If you change your post PM me and i'll fix this one.

C) In May 2000 the first set of import laws came into effect, prior to this many, MANY cars have come across using the old (ambiguous) laws and are thusly registered. These cars are considered legal for all intents and purposes according to VicRoads (can't speak for other states). However in this case, since the rules have since gotten legistlation the loophole is closed. It was technically a loophole.

D) Enjoy your read of dotars.gov.au.
